UFV January 2020 Intake

World Canada CA Programs

Published

I will be applying into the Bachelors of Science in Nursing program at UFV for January 2020 Intake.
Currently have A-English B-Bio B-Chem and a B-Math of which math I will be upgrading this summer to an A, hopefully.

I am also a RCA and have a lot of volunteer experience as well in the health care field

Would this be a strong enough application? Also, if anyone has experienced the information session or interview please do mention how it works and if there's any way to prepare or sort of get a better idea on what they're expecting.

Also, it was my desire to stay close to home as well. But I am not sure it is worth the gamble. Just saying.

I will talk to the adviser again to get that clarified.

And yes, I don't think so either. At this point I'd just love to get into a nursing program regardless of where it is.

I would suggest talking with someone from the health studies department. ******* ******* for example.

The advisors don’t always know the specifics. Whereas ******* is the lady in charge of the applications. She would know. Or ******** ****** who works at the front desk. Either way advisors have lead people astray before in regard to the nursing program. I wasn’t told all the facts when I applied either. So just talk directly to the people at the school of health studies office in Chilliwack they will know.

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestion. I definitely will look into it.

Oh I just noticed that it blocked out the names!

Just call the health studies office they will direct you.

Hey guys! I'm applying to the January intake as well. I've applied to UFV a couple of times, and its extremely competitive. I just finished upgrading my high school courses, and have A's in all of them. I have 6 years worth of volunteer experience in different hospital units. I'm really hoping that it'll work out for this intake! Good luck to everyone! Hopefully we can all help each other with the application process ?

Hi everyone,

Sorry to comment on this thread with a somewhat unrelated question, but I am hoping someone may be able to help answer my question! I am also interested in the UFV Nursing program, and will be applying for the September 2020 intake. I am a post-secondary student, and was wondering whether I could still upgrade my high school courses to be used in the GPA calculation? Or, do I have to complete the post secondary equivalents as I am a post secondary student? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UFV offers highschool classes through UUP (ie. chem083 = chemistry 11, bio093 = biology 12, eng091 = english 12), and I think most post secondary schools have something similar. They're tuition free, you just have to pay for the school fees.

Even as a post secondary student you may upgrade your highschool courses. Just because you have taken some university classes doesn't mean that you need to take the post secondary equivalent to the highschool classes you want to upgrade. By all means if you want to redo Biology 12 or Chemistry 11 or whatever course you want, you can redo them. The only thing you have to do is make sure that UFV recieves a transcript saying you have completed those highschool classes and you're good to go.

I hope that answers your question.

Any other questions just ask.

Good Luck!

Hi Adelinna,

Thank you for your reply. It sure is a relief that I can retake the high school courses! I had one more question... on the website, it says something about the BSN program having a continuous application process.... when I clicked on the link to see what it was about, from what I understood, it means that the UFV BSN program has a waiting list and that seats are given on a first come first serve basis? I could be totally wrong about this, but I think I remember reading something about how the earlier you apply before the deadline, the better your chances of getting in? That worries me a little, because I know that applications open in October, but I won't be done with my pre-reqs until December at the latest... if any of you have any idea about this, please let me know! ?

UFV's BSN program is not first come first serve. Applicants get points for their grades and volunteer experience. Those moving forward in the selection process are invited to an info session where they write an essay, and then the ones that are progressing from there are invited to an interview - both of those are also graded on a point system. Seats are offered to the applicants with the highest scores. UFV does put some people on a wait list in case anyone declines their spot, or can't attend for some reason.

You can apply to UFV at anytime during the year but the deadline for a September start is January 31st. If you want to start in January then you must have all your documents and such in by August 15th. You can apply August 16th for the September start or January 30th and still have the same chance of getting in. UFV gives seats to people with the highest points. Points are given for GPA, Volunteer or Work experience and based on the essay and interview if you get that far.

There is no "Waiting List" based on when the application is submitted.

I was on a waiting list before I got in last September. How it worked for me was I got all the documents in about the middle of January. I had 4 A's and had completed Eng 105 and Soc 101 at UFV with 2 more courses in-progress. I was invited to the Essay writing evening. And after that was again invited to the interviews. (I've been told that you need a minimum of 3 A's and 1 B to be invited to the essay writing evening.) After the interview when they sent out acceptance emails I recieved an email saying that though I was not accepted at this time, I had been placed on a waiting list should a spot become available. (Some people have said that only 10 people are put on this waitlist) A few months later I got another email saying there was a spot open for me should I chose to accept it. If this had not happened I would have try again next intake. Waitlisting does not continue past the intake you applied for.

I hope that wasn't too long and confusing and that it answered all your questions.

If you weren't clear on something or want me to explain in more detail don't hesistate to ask.

Adelinna
