  1. Hi Ruth Welcome to AllNurses! There is not much you can do to prepare for the essay. I would recommend reading the stuff from the BCCNP that UFV suggests. You don't need to know in depth nursing stuff. The purpose of the essay and interview is to show them how you think about things and what your views are. What you have learned in life and how you can relate those skills to nursing. Caring for people, time management, critical thinking, therapeutic conversational skills and so forth. They know that we aren't nurses (...yet) just be you. Hope that helps! Good Luck!
  2. Well doesn't matter where you got accepted or chose to go as long as you got into nursing school! I know so many people trying, its not that easy, as you probably know. So Congrats! Good Luck at Camosun! Its so nice when you can stay at home/close to home.
  3. Hi Kaitlyn! Congrats on getting in! That's awesome! Well if UFV does accept Math 12 instead of Math 11 that's wonderful! Did you not do Math 11 at all?
  4. I do not think Math 12 would be accepted in place of Math 11. They only require 4 courses. Chem 11, Math 11, Bio 12 and Eng 12 with your diploma. As far as I know they do not accept any substiution unless it's the university equivalent. You would have to retake Math 11 (I'm assuming you're retaking for a higher grade) And yes [email protected]. is the correct place to ask any admission or program related questions. Where else are you considering applying? When did you decide to go into nursing? And no problem whatsoever. I'm very glad I can help! Adelinna
  5. You can apply to UFV at anytime during the year but the deadline for a September start is January 31st. If you want to start in January then you must have all your documents and such in by August 15th. You can apply August 16th for the September start or January 30th and still have the same chance of getting in. UFV gives seats to people with the highest points. Points are given for GPA, Volunteer or Work experience and based on the essay and interview if you get that far. There is no "Waiting List" based on when the application is submitted. I was on a waiting list before I got in last September. How it worked for me was I got all the documents in about the middle of January. I had 4 A's and had completed Eng 105 and Soc 101 at UFV with 2 more courses in-progress. I was invited to the Essay writing evening. And after that was again invited to the interviews. (I've been told that you need a minimum of 3 A's and 1 B to be invited to the essay writing evening.) After the interview when they sent out acceptance emails I recieved an email saying that though I was not accepted at this time, I had been placed on a waiting list should a spot become available. (Some people have said that only 10 people are put on this waitlist) A few months later I got another email saying there was a spot open for me should I chose to accept it. If this had not happened I would have try again next intake. Waitlisting does not continue past the intake you applied for. I hope that wasn't too long and confusing and that it answered all your questions. If you weren't clear on something or want me to explain in more detail don't hesistate to ask. Adelinna
  6. Even as a post secondary student you may upgrade your highschool courses. Just because you have taken some university classes doesn't mean that you need to take the post secondary equivalent to the highschool classes you want to upgrade. By all means if you want to redo Biology 12 or Chemistry 11 or whatever course you want, you can redo them. The only thing you have to do is make sure that UFV recieves a transcript saying you have completed those highschool classes and you're good to go. I hope that answers your question. Any other questions just ask. Good Luck!
  7. Oh I just noticed that it blocked out the names! Just call the health studies office they will direct you.
  8. I would suggest talking with someone from the health studies department. ******* ******* for example. The advisors don’t always know the specifics. Whereas ******* is the lady in charge of the applications. She would know. Or ******** ****** who works at the front desk. Either way advisors have lead people astray before in regard to the nursing program. I wasn’t told all the facts when I applied either. So just talk directly to the people at the school of health studies office in Chilliwack they will know. Good Luck
  9. Thanks Kathy. I was just going to explain this, but you've beat to it!
  10. I was told I was not accepted but put on the waitlist on May 9th and then I received an email on July 3rd that there was a spot open for me. I know someone in my cohort that was informed of an open spot about a week before the semester started! So anytime really until the semester starts you can be emailed about an open spot this is only if you are on the waitlist. I don't know if they have ever gone through all the people on the waitlist and emailed people that applied but weren't on the waiting list. Who knows! Good Luck everyone!
  11. UFV uses a 4.33 grading scale and I do believe they use it for your high-school GPA. So that might increase some people's B's to A's or A-'s Good Luck!
  12. A friend of my applied for this last intake (Fall 2019) and was told that applicants needed a mininum 3 A's and 1 B to be considered. She had 2 A's and 2 B's and was told she would need to upgrade her courses in order to be considered. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news. But you will need to upgrade your highschool courses if you want to attend the nursing Program at UFV. Good luck!
  13. My school (BSN program) considers 63% in the entire course a failing grade. So if you get 50% on an assignment or exam and get 98% on the final and it all evens out to a 63% or above you are still in the program. Fail a class once you can retake it next time if there's space (You get kicked out of your cohort, they move on and you have to wait to complete the class before you can move on in the program) but if you fail a class twice you are out for good.
  14. Congrats on getting this far! They want to know how You think and who You are. So my advice is to be yourself. Good Luck!
  15. Just be you. I didn't really do much to prepare watched a couple youtube movies on nursing school interveiw questions. They want to know your answer to the question, who you are and what you think. There were two rooms in each corner was a table with a nursing instructor who gives you a piece of paper with a question you read it and have 2 min to answer the question. A buzzer goes off and you rotate to the next table. 8 questions in total.
