UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

Published

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

For the current students in the program:

1) What has been your favorite course so far?

2) What has been the most difficult course so far?

You'll lose some people so by the time you graduate you'll probably have about 10 less than that.

Do you know when/ the main reasons why people quit (or failed I guess?)?

Before I answer these questions it's important for you to know that UF recently overhauled their curriculum so our classes are slightly different than those that you will take. For example, we took patho and pharm separately but now they're combined to be a part 1 and part 2 course (this is better!).

1. Personally, my favorite lecture courses were health assessment and SOC2. They were both more difficult but you really learn a lot in them. Your clinical courses will probably be your favorite though because you're actually out in the hospital doing things!

2. Our hardest course was probably patho because we were brand new to the program and it was a lot in just 6 weeks of summer. SOC2 is difficult as well but you at least know what you're doing by the time that rolls around.

They mostly failed, unfortunately. We lost one or two people the first semester due to patho and then more people second semester due to SOC2 and pharm. You never really know why someone fails, but those courses are intense. We're in semester 3 now and I don't expect to lose many people this semester since our course load drastically decreased.

Thanks for the feedback! I've heard Patho and Pharm are killer classes, but I'm happy to hear they are being taught as joint classes in two parts; it seems like it would make sense to learn them alongside each other!

Anyone else feel like they are on the razor's edge today?!?

Knowing that we either hear back today or next Friday has me eerily calm on the outside but screaming on the inside! ??

Next Friday it is, seems like ?

What’s another week at this point? We just have to mentally prepare for the longest week ever ?

I can’t believe the 22nd is near , which is when I believe we will hear back and a friend in the program mentioned it will be this date as well. It’s nerve wracking especially since I also have an interview for JU that same day!!

For those applying to the Jax campus try to speak with someone currently in the program! We don't know a lot about it in our Gainesville cohort but we've heard some less than flattering things. Not to scare you but make sure you're well-informed going in or you might regret it!

Hi all! If you're new to this forum and missed some of my earlier replies I am a current JAX student! ? There was about 40 of us admitted to JAX this past cohort

For me personally (in Jax)...

1.) I loved Genetics online but I am bias because that's what my background is in. I think the new cohort will not have this class due to the altered curriculum.

I actually really liked Patho and pharmacology in terms of content. Both are very hard classes but they will be a combined course for the new cohort. I personally liked the science components to these classes but you will also learn how these all apply to being a great nurse!

2.) Health assessment for me was hard. The material isn't the issue but our exams were very difficult and you really get a taste of "nursing/ NCLEX- style questions in this course. This was the class that people who did not make it past first semester failed (in our cohort no one failed Patho actually). I also think SOC 2 was pretty difficult as well but second semester is just harder in general because of the load you have between classes and clinicals.

Do remember that everyone has their strengths/weaknesses as well as different learning styles. There are also differences in exams/professors between GNVL and JAX for some of the courses and cohorts prior to even ours. So you may hear different things depending on who you ask.

Same with Jax, unfortunately. First semester we didn't lose anyone due to patho but instead because of health assessment. Second semester was a combo of pharm and SOC 2.

We started with 40 in our cohort and lost 6 total (3 in first and 3 in second semester). We did end up having 2 students from the previous cohort matriculate into ours (however one quit the program due to personal reasons). Thus we currently have 35 students.

How do you get your grade in these classes, like is it mostly exam based or a combination of class work and exams? Do professors usually give you a second chance on making up a grade? Do professors give any extra help for these difficult classes? Also, can you tell me what’s a class schedule like for the week?

thank you and sorry for all the questions
