UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

Does anybody know if it's easier to get into Summer A/C v. Summer B or does it not make a difference?

I think they only have a May start for the Accelerated Program! (but i could be wrong)

When does Orientation normally happen for the current students that have been on this thread recently?

Also, when did your classes begin in May?

I saw somewhere that last year the orientation was May 9th, which was a Wednesday. If they're going by that schedule, I'd guess it will be May 8th this year.

FYI: 1 Day.. 5hrs... and 2 mins approximately! But who’s counting right?

Good luck to everyone! I remember how nervous I was this time last year. I will see many of you in Jax since I will be one of your mentors. Just breathe and Go Gators! ?

p.s. If you have any questions about the Jacksonville cohort specifically, I can answer any questions you may have if you send me a private message.

For the accelerated programs, there is only one start date!

Orientation will be in May (usually the week before classes, so the 8-9 seem logical). If you get into Jacksonville, you will have a half day orientation in Gainesville and then the next day will be a full one in Jacksonville. ?

I believe classes will start on May 13th!

for those currently in the UF absn program at either jax or gville, what does a typical day look like?

for example, what times are classes and clinical usually at?

also, does anyone know how long we have to confirm our acceptance if we do get accepted?

thank you!!!

wishing everyone the best of luck!!! (less than 24 hours!)

It varies from semester to semester. The first two semesters will be the busiest. During our first semester, we only had Thursdays off (and the weekend, of course). Every other day was either didactic/classroom learning and/or clinical rotations. Second semester was clinicals on Monday/Tuesday. Systems of care 2 class on Wednesdays and Pharmacology on Thursdays. In addition, we had two online classes that were constant throughout the semester. Third semester, the only day we have classes is on Wednesdays. All of the other days of the week are dedicated to various clinicals. Don't know about the 4th semester yet but I would imagine it would be similar to this semester. The program becomes more clinical heavy as you progress through.

It varies, but the latest we in Jax have had a class was last semester. Our Pharmacology class was from 1-4, but you will have a different schedule. As far as the clinicals, our hospital clinicals were usually from 0645-1400. Half of our psych rotations are from 1830-2300. And many of us will have to do over night clinicals next semester during our transitions (1900-0700). This is just the hospital clinicals. Your other clinicals (community health clinicals) can vary even more, but will be during the day. I'm sorry if this sounds confusing. The thing to remember is that your clinical hours will vary from semester to semester and will get longer the further you go through the program (i.e. hospital clinicals during first semester for us were 5 hours long. Second and third semester; 7 hours. Our last semester will be a full nursing shift; 12 hours)
