UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

Sorry I didn't include my stats, I remember wanting to know everyone's!

UF Grad with a BS in Biology. Pre-req GPA 4.0. "UF GPA" 3.9 (yours is probably higher than you think bc they only take your last 60 credits). TEAS 92. Extracurriculars included tutoring and volunteering with kids and animals. ZERO hospital or patient-care experience, lol.

Also applied to UCF and UNF and got into both of those as well! Chose UF Gainesville in the end ?. Hope this helps!

thanks so much for sharing!! the information you provided is super helpful!

it is nice to hear that you actually have a life and that the ABSN program is not as bad as so many people say it is!

i wish you the very best of luck as you continue through the program and graduate!! ?

Hi guys!

So I've been looking over a bunch of other requirements that other nursing schools have. I applied to UF, UNF, and UCF. So far, I got an interview from UNF and saw the cost for attending (including uniforms, supplies, and "miscellaneous"). Everything seems to add up to...quite a lot of money. I'm trying to figure out how I'll get the funds for all of it, and I know that some of these things are one-time purchases but I'm not sure about others? I know that CPR certifications have to be renewed every so often, and apparently we have to renew "MyClinical exchange", and I know some schools do random drug testing, which all comes out of the students' pockets. Does anyone know how many times we'll have to pay for these things? And is this only at UNF or is it at other schools as well?

Any current/past nursing students/ knowledge is really appreciated!

I’m also wanting to get into L&D!

Sorry for the ignorance - what's L & D?

what's L & D?

Labor & delivery

I am wanting to get into pediatric oncology, L&D, or NICU.

I am secretly hoping decisions come out sooner than last year because the assessments were due 15 days sooner this year.

How much do you think they take into account the essay answers/patient care experience? My GPA isn’t stellar but I was hoping my experience as a Scribe/MA/CNA would give me an edge. Do you know a lot of people from your cohort that already had clinical experience? Thanks!

when i talked to -----------------, he said that UF’s admissions process is very holistic and they place HIGH importance on the essay questions compared to your grades! so, in my own personal opinion, i think your experience and your essay responses will make up for your GPA if it is a little lower! but don’t quote me on that haha.

wishing you the best of luck! hopefully we find out soon!!

I just noticed the freshman admission decisions are coming out on February 8. I wish our decisions were then! Fingers crossed it’ll be earlier than the 22nd since our assessments were due earlier than usual. This wait feels like forever. ?

Hi all!

Just checking in and wanted to wish you all the best of luck (my fingers are crossed for each of you)! As someone mentioned, last year, I received my acceptance email in the late afternoon on February 23rd. I know the waiting game is super stressful but just try to hang tight for a little while!

In the meantime, if you have any questions (especially if they're specific to the Jacksonville campus) feel free to message me individually! ?

It looks like freshman decisions were out 2/9 last year (I couldn’t help myself and actually googled it ?), so it looks like that matches the expected timeline for this year.

Hey guys,

I'm definitely late to this thread, but figured I'd join in on the conversation. I met with Kenneth last week and he was extremely helpful and explained to me that grades aren't all of what the admissions board is looking for. The assessments are a huge part of it which they're currently reviewing. He told me there were over 400 applicants between Gainesville and Jacksonville locations (which terrifies me).

My prerequisite GPA is pretty average, as is my overall last 60 hours GPA. UF is my absolute dream, praying I get in! I seriously cannot WAIT for decisions to come out in February, my interview for JU's ABSN program is February 22nd which I'm pretty sure is when we'll be hearing about the UF decisions ?
