UF accelerated BSN Summer 2019

U.S.A. Florida

Hello!

It's only May but I am already working on getting my ducks in a row for the Post-bacc application. I thought it would be nice to start a thread so applicants can support each other through the process! I know I have a million questions already and I am trying hard not to pester admissions.

I am so excited to be almost done with my prerequisites and I am looking forward to finally applying this Fall!

I would love to hear about everyone's background, projects, questions, and hopefully we can help each other out.

Good luck to all! We got this!

A follow-up:
I snooped around last year's thread on Allnurses - seems that last year the results came out on February 23rd! Just means more waiting around than I was hoping for. >.<

I'm a former Gator, so I know Gainesville, but does anyone have recommendations for living arrangements in JAX? I put no preference (while I like Gville, my MAIN preference is to get into this program at all).

Hello! I lived in Jacksonville during my internship, and I lived at the district on kernan near UNF. I loved it there! I would stray away from downtown Jax near the hospital, but anywhere near UNF is super nice.

Has anyone been to the Jacksonville campus? I know it's not very big but I just was wondering what it was like.

@KDickson1003 I have not been to the Jax campus but based on online photos it looks to be pretty nice! hoping to go visit soon!

does anyone know when we will get decisions? so nervous!

I am guessing decisions will be out near or on February 22nd based on previous years. The waiting game is killing me! I am at least glad there was the assessment to put our mind at ease for a little bit.

Hey guys! I'm a current third semester ABSN student and would love to answer your questions! Some of the things I can probably go ahead and tell you are that there's a 99.99% chance that the admission emails come out on a Friday. The office likes to send them out later in the day at the end of the week so that they can avoid phone calls and emails for the whole weekend. Cruel, but this is how almost all UF colleges do it. Second, if you do not get in, appeal appeal appeal! I know of several people who appealed and got in no problem. This program is WILD from professors to schedules to clinicals. Our class was kind of blindsided our first semester and WOW what a slap to the face. Feel free to ask me anything and I will try to be as helpful as possible! In the meantime, just hang tight. The admission process is actually way more personal than I ever thought it was, so just give the staff some time and relax while you can!

Sorry I didn't include my stats, I remember wanting to know everyone's!

UF Grad with a BS in Biology. Pre-req GPA 4.0. "UF GPA" 3.9 (yours is probably higher than you think bc they only take your last 60 credits). TEAS 92. Extracurriculars included tutoring and volunteering with kids and animals. ZERO hospital or patient-care experience, lol.

Also applied to UCF and UNF and got into both of those as well! Chose UF Gainesville in the end ?. Hope this helps!

Hey hey - my name is Rebecca. I was wondering if there is anyone who is still in the process of completing their prerequisites for the Summer 2019 Accelerated BSN program at UF?

I am taking my last two prerequisites this semester and should complete them at the end of April. When I sent my transcripts in with my application, my official grades were not updated yet. I am not sure if I should send in a new transcript or wait until I finish all my prerequisites. Any suggestions?

I am finishing up my prerequisites right now too. When I submitted the application I submitted a transcript that showed I was signed up for the courses in the spring. I was also taking classes during the fall semester so I sent the transcript to show I was enrolled and then sent in the transcript with my final grades once the semester was over.

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to write to us on here. I am so nervous to find out if I got in or not. I was just wondering what is the typically class schedule like? I know it is probably really busy but are classes everyday? Weekends? Just trying to mentally prepare myself for how busy I am going to be if I get in.

This might help you get an idea

Hey Rebecca! I'm sorry I don't know how to directly reply to your individual post, so I hope you see this. It's absolutely fine that you're still taking pre-reqs, I was too! Wait until your transcript is complete with all pre-reqs and then send it in. They'll probably remind you in the admission email to submit updated records. Just don't forget! I hope this helps and good luck in your last semester!

Hi sage-femme! This is a really great question. Because our schedule includes summer semesters it's a little different than the traditional students'. Summer semesters are only 12 weeks (compared to 16). I believe that we had two days of lecture, two days of clinicals, and one day of HESI prep and/or meetings. Your clinicals are split into hospital days and community experiences. Community experiences are basically volunteering-type things. So summer is busy, yes! The one thing that you will very quickly learn about the program is that it's disorganized as hell. During the first two weeks especially you will feel completely lost because it's hectic. Just roll with it because it will all work out. Anyway, the other semesters are longer so you get at least one day off during the week. Our schedule in the fall worked out so that we had one lecture day, two clinical days (both hospital experiences), and one day reserved for HESI and/or meetings. Spring is very similar so far.

One of the biggest myths of nursing school is that you have no life, NOT true! My friends and I are able to travel, go out, and relax. Of course, this also depends on what kind of studier you are because you will definitely be studying, a lot. There are times when you feel like you're totally overloaded but it really only takes over as much as you let it. It's entirely possible to be super successful and still have a life! Hope this helps!
