UF Accelerated BSN Fall 2012

U.S.A. Florida

Published

HI:)

I am an undergraduate student at UCF right now and will soon be graduating with my degree in Psychology. I am applying to UF's accelerated BSN program for Fall 2012.

My first year of college was brutal! My first semester I made 4 Cs and 1 D. My second semester I made 2 Cs and 3 Fs. I had to retake the 3 classes I failed over the summer and I made 3 Cs. So... it has completely ruined my GPA. It seems like no matter how many As I make it barely brings it up.

But, thankfully UF only considers your most RECENT 60 credit hours towards your GPA. This is so great because my overall GPA is only a 2.6, but by the time I'm done taking classes my most recent 60 credit hours GPA will be around a 3.7-3.8.

Is anyone else suffering from a year of bad grades like me?

I wish every other school only considered your most recent 60 credit hours. UF seems like my only real hope to be accepted, but at the same time it's UF... not the easiest school to get into.

CShaia,

When you say you had low GRE scores, what did you have exactly if you don't mind me asking?

I'm applying to the summer 2012 program as well but I got a 154 on the verbal and 152 on the quantitative on the revised GRE (which translates into a 510-520 Verbal and a 660-670 Quantitative for the old GRE). I have a 3.43 GPA overall and around a 3.75 GPA on upper division courses but I just feel like that verbal score is too low and won't be competitive enough to get in. Thanks in advance for the help! Go Gators!

Hi everyone! This is my first time applying for the program and like most of you am concerned about my GRE scores. I have scheduled to take the test but haven't taken it yet. Any recommendations on study guides?

I've actually got one last pre-req that I will be taking this upcoming spring semester. Although the website says you can still be taking them in spring..it makes me nervous about my chances. I know it's a gamble but since I work full time I had to push my last class on to the next semester. I knew if I did too much at one time plus working I would not do as well.

I haven't taken the recommended epidemiology class either. I tried to enroll for it this upcoming semester but our registration system would not let me. I think I will have to get approval if I choose to take it. I may retake statistics instead to get a better grade.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if anyone knew what the stats were for those who get accepted to the ABSN program at UF? Like was the average GRE scores are and the average GPA is? THANKS!

not sure if this helps anyone or not, but I graduated from the accelerated program a few weeks ago. I got in with a 3.8 GPA and and 540 V and 680 Q. I was really nervous about being barely over the required 500, but it ended up not being an issue. A friend of mine was denied and she had roughly the same GRE scores but her GPA was in the 3.3 area - she wrote a really good appeal letter and ended up getting into the program. So even if you don't get accepted, don't give up! It is an awesome program and the professors are great.

Thank you twodollarbills... When you say you got in with a 3.8 GPA was that your upper division GPA?

K2012, yes, it is my upper division. I don't know what my combined gpa would be because I went to Valencia community college in Orlando and then I got my first degree at UF. When you are a transfer student at UF they wipe your gpa slate clean and you start over with a new gpa. At Valencia I think I had around a 3.5, then UF was a 3.8. Side fact, for anyone contemplating grad school afterward... When I talked to the out of state school I applied to they mentioned my gpa, which wasnt my nursing school gpa... And when I asked them about the number they said they actually made their decision based on the combined gpa of my CC, first degree, and nursing gpa. I am not sure if this is how a lot of grad schools do it, but just a heads up for the future.

Thank you twodollarbills for all the info, your post makes me feel better about my stats :)

Does anyone have an idea when we will find out if we are accepted or not for Summer 2012? I'm assuming April at the latest since the application deadline is February 1, but I am hoping we will find out in March.

i talked to wanda today she said should be end of feb or beginning of march...part-tay!

I am surprised there isn't a little more action on here ...the deadline is just about 2 weeks AHHHH !!!!...atleast you know thats how I am feeling!

poodle5... That is pretty early which is great because I thought they were going to let us know by the end of March beginning of April. Hopefully little action translates into not so many people applying ;) but that is probably just wishful thinking. Anyway good luck! I am extremely nervous!!!

Thanks poodle5! That would be awesome if we find out end of feb!! How is everyones Gpa and GRE scores if you dont mind me asking? I wrote my stuff in an earlier post in this thread. Just wanting to get an idea of where I stand. And did anyone else take the new GRE?

j8911... My GPA is a 3.84 and my GRE is 1170 (540 v 630 q). Hopefully my GRE scores aren't an issue.
