UF Accelerated BSN Fall 2012

Published

HI:)

I am an undergraduate student at UCF right now and will soon be graduating with my degree in Psychology. I am applying to UF's accelerated BSN program for Fall 2012.

My first year of college was brutal! My first semester I made 4 Cs and 1 D. My second semester I made 2 Cs and 3 Fs. I had to retake the 3 classes I failed over the summer and I made 3 Cs. So... it has completely ruined my GPA. It seems like no matter how many As I make it barely brings it up.

But, thankfully UF only considers your most RECENT 60 credit hours towards your GPA. This is so great because my overall GPA is only a 2.6, but by the time I'm done taking classes my most recent 60 credit hours GPA will be around a 3.7-3.8.

Is anyone else suffering from a year of bad grades like me?

I wish every other school only considered your most recent 60 credit hours. UF seems like my only real hope to be accepted, but at the same time it's UF... not the easiest school to get into.

Hey buddy, I'm waiting to hear for 2011. I'm in a similar boat. I had all kinds of problems in my undergrad, but I really pulled it together for my MBA. Ken told me that they do look at everything, which made me a little nervous. It gave me a little different impression then their website did. I was hoping they would just ignore that and look at my grad gpa, GRE, and prereq gpa which are all above 3.5. I got a 14 something on the GRE. I'll let you know if I get in. If I do then their should be hope for you. After decisions come out, I would go in and talk to Ken. Get a relationship going with him, and see what you can do to help between now and then. Good luck to you.

I am planning on applying for FAll 2012 UF Accelerated BSN program also. I'm graduating this year at USF with a B.S. in Business. I had a similar situation as original poster. I failed two semesters in my 2nd year and retook all those courses with A's. My last 60 credit hours is around 3.75 but my overall gpa is only 3.21 because of the failing grades. I plan on taking MBA courses at USF in the mean time and hope that helps my chances.

I'm in the same boat as well. I had a really crummy first few years of college. I have since then gotten my act together and will be graduating with a 3.9 in upper division this year! I think you will be fine as long you try to make yourself stand out in the other parts of the application as well. For example pre req grades, work/volunteer experience, recommendation letters, your statement of purpose.. and so on. I plan on taking a CNA course and working in the mean time. Good Luck!

hello all.

i'm the coordinator for admissions and registration with the college of nursing and i wanted to let everyone know that if you have questions regarding the program please feel free to get in touch with me. here's my contact info:

i'm more than happy to help with any questions that you might have.

Has anyone taken the epidemiology class that is recommended?

I did not take it, but I was admitted for 2011. They may have higher expectations for future classes though with the additional time to accommodate the change. It is also one more thing to help your gpa and application overall if you are worried you are on the border of getting in. I unfortunately will be applying again for next year even though I was accepted this year due to an unfortunate set of circumstances. My goal may be deferred but it is not forgotten.

Hello guys,

Just wanted to point out that for 2012 the program will be starting in the Summer and not in the Fall. I'm currently having a different problem. I have a upperdivision GPA of 4.0 and overall GPA of 3.6 which should increase after this semester and will be graduating from UF in the Spring, but did not get 500 or higher on each GRE section. I have only taken the GRE once but I am terrified to fail again. Is anyone else on the same boat?

How is the GRE for UF vs the TEAS test for UCF? Does anyone have any experience with either test?

Hey guys!

I am re-applying for UF's Accelerated BSN program for Summer 2012. I applied for Fall 2011 term, but did not get in. I believe it was because I had low GRE scores (480 Verbal, 650 Quant, both about 56 percentile) and the applicant pool at the time had really good credentials. I am sure that will be the case again this time around. I have spent my time by getting involved with nursing research and have also managed to get my GRE scores up (162 Verbal, 159 Quant, 90th percentile and 82nd percentile). I took the revised GRE which is why scores are on a different scale, but they are equivalent to a 640 verbal and 750 quant. I am hoping that I won't be at any disadvantage for taking the revised test. My overall GPA is about a 3.5, which is not outstanding due to some difficulty in Physics 1&2 and in Organic Chem 1&2. I am not positive on what my upper division GPA is, but I know it is at least a 3.5.

I will be applying to other schools in Florida, but UF is my first choice. I will have to take the TEAS soon for the first time. From some practice questions I found online, it looks as if the test will be a comprehensive review of pre-requisite courses we have taken for the BSN program. For example, the Science portion had Anatomy and Physiology type questions. I hope I could provide some insight. Best of luck to all of you applicants and I hope I will be starting with you all in Summer 2012! :)

When you all state your "upper division GPA" does that mean your last 60 hours GPA? Thanks for the help. When is the deadline for apps?

Hi all!

I am in the same boat as some of you, I applied last year and did not get in. I had low GRE scores, but will be taking the GRE again to try and bring that portion of my application up. I am hoping to have better luck this time around! This website eases my nerves a lot to know that there are other people going through the same issues I have been. I hope the best for all of you :)

Claytonrenee, the application deadline is feb 1, 2012. Hope that helps!

Best of luck to all of you and Go Gators!
