K2012, yes, it is my upper division. I don't know what my combined gpa would be because I went to Valencia community college in Orlando and then I got my first degree at UF. When you are a transfer student at UF they wipe your gpa slate clean and you start over with a new gpa. At Valencia I think I had around a 3.5, then UF was a 3.8. Side fact, for anyone contemplating grad school afterward... When I talked to the out of state school I applied to they mentioned my gpa, which wasnt my nursing school gpa... And when I asked them about the number they said they actually made their decision based on the combined gpa of my CC, first degree, and nursing gpa. I am not sure if this is how a lot of grad schools do it, but just a heads up for the future.

not sure if this helps anyone or not, but I graduated from the accelerated program a few weeks ago. I got in with a 3.8 GPA and and 540 V and 680 Q. I was really nervous about being barely over the required 500, but it ended up not being an issue. A friend of mine was denied and she had roughly the same GRE scores but her GPA was in the 3.3 area - she wrote a really good appeal letter and ended up getting into the program. So even if you don't get accepted, don't give up! It is an awesome program and the professors are great.

I worded that poorly. I meant that I could get my CNM and choose to practice in a similar capacity as a WHNP since they can do all the same things (with the added benefit of being able to assist in deliveries as a CNM) - as I am most interested in gynecological care and postpartum care but only have access to midwifery programs in florida.

Thank you for all of the information. I still feel a little confused, but it seems like I can pretty much practice as a WHNP but have a midwifery degree since that is what is available in florida. Thank you again, everyone!

Thank you for the replies. Everything I have read has talked about how CNMs have the additional benefit of being able to assist in delivery. While I totally understand this I am hoping to find out specifically if there is anything that a WHNP can do that you cannot do with just a CNM. The reason this is important to me is because at the University of Florida we have a midwifery program and so if as a CNM I am able to do everything a WHNP can do plus some then it does not benefit me to sell my house and pay out of state tuition just to have the WHNP if there is no added benefit. So I am trying to figure out what I would be missing out on as a CNM if I choose to stay in state. I just think there has to be a reason why people go back to school for two extra semesters solely to add WHNP education to their CNM education, I just cannot figure out why!

I am not sure if I am posting this in the best possible spot, so I am sorry if I am upsetting anyone by posting in this location. I am an accelerated BSN student and I am trying to make a decision for grad school. I am stuck between midwifery or Women's Health. Unfortunately, no school in my state offers a Women's Health specialty. When I look at schools that offer both midwifery and WH I see that pretty much 98% of the classes are the same. My question to you is... if you are a CNM are you pretty much able to perform everything a WHNP can? If not, what can a WHNP do that a CNM is not qualified to perform? Thanks!

Hey everyone, congrats to those who got in!!! I just got back home to Gainesville from being out of town and saw that I got accepted! so excited!! I know that people that still have to wait a couple of days have been asking people's stats so in the case that anyone is at all interested: 3.8 GPA - 1220 GRE

Twois - thanks for the update, I live in Gainesville too - but I dont get my mail until around 5pm so you just saved me from thinking about it for the next 4 hours. thanks! I guess tomorrow is the day. We need to all go out and get a drink saturday night! (accepted or not!) Btw - am I the only one freaked out by LBSD's post? We have almost the exact same stats and she didnt get in last year! not the best news for me to be thinking about. good luck this year lbsd!

Sam - if you get in you could probably stay the night at the house of one of the other girls that gets in and that already lives here so you can look around town and make a decision actually based on seeing the place. I have lived in Gainesville for 4 years and can also help you out with information... I have never lived in an apartment complex in town though, so I can really only help you by telling you about the part of town it is in, rather than the place itself. People will probably disagree with me, but I think a general rule of a place to live that is not too far away from anything is to stay in the teens or less when looking at street and ave numbers. Then you are near midtown, downtown, campus, etc. (for example, I live on 9th and 6th, I am about a mile from downtown, two miles from midtown, and 3 miles from Shands/College of Nursing) there are a lot of places to live within those parameters that are safe to live in. Gainesville kind of just has a few random streets scattered here and there that feel a little unsafe, rather than one huge area to avoid.
