UCSF MEPN 2020

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, I just wanted to start this new topic for those like myself who are interested in applying to the MEPN program for the 2020 cohort.

Hi everyone! I am nervous and excited just like all of you. I submitted my app to UC Davis MEPN about a month ago (this is my second time applying) and am now fine tuning to submit for UCSF. I too am hoping to join the WHMP/CNM cohort!

For those working on your essays and short answers, what did you say differently between the "Your Post-Graduation Job/Career Plans and Objectives" and Goal Statement so as not to be too repetitive? For me these are very similar and I'm curious what you all maybe did!

Anyone know where we should be able to see if UCSF has received our transcripts??

Yep! After creating the username, I realized it's a bit misleading and probably bad karma to write out as though I already were a PMHNP but c'est la vie. I'm a hopeful pmhnp! How about you?

I think it's fine. You'll get there!!! You got this!!!! This will be my second time applying to the FNP specialty.

@Raverlane

If you don't mind me asking, how did you structure your personal history statement? Did you tell a specific story as to why you're applying to grad school?

For the additional background information section, did you guys write a paragraph for each section/bullet points?

Hello everyone! I am applying for the PNP specialty. Super nervous but excited about this process! UCSF is my dream and I have been preparing for this moment for the past 4 years. I can't believe the application is due in a little over a month! I am so glad that we can use this resource for supporting each other though. It definitely is giving me some piece of mind.

@Anisap I am doing mine in paragraph style, but am struggling to not make it repetitive with my personal history statement. Since there is a 2700 character limit, I am assuming that they want us to write it out in paragraphs.

I am wondering the same thing

This is what I'm doing too! I'm working on the Goals ones now and trying to avoid being repetitive!

I think they want the personal history to be about you and your story, kinda the who, what, when, where, why behind you. If you scroll back a few posts there's a link from the UCSF recruiter that talks about what to share!

Yes! For the personal history statement, I explained a bit about my personal background (such as the world I come from) but, more importantly, I explained specific life experiences that have led to my decision to apply to grad school. I made sure to explain how these experiences are pertinent, how they've influenced me personally, and how I feel they've prepared me for graduate study as a (hopefully future) nursing student. I tied all these experiences together and that resulted in my personal ethnography!

In the Prezi presentation I linked a few posts back, I consulted the slide that featured a side-by-side comparison of the personal history and goal statements. It helped a ton, and I referred back to it when drafting my statements! I understood they wanted each of the statements to address specific parts/issues, and they seem very particular about it. I'd look at that presentation for more detail.

I e-mailed SJ about this personally a few weeks ago! He told me either is fine, but keep in mind, it'd probably be easier on your reader if you bullet point since they'll be reviewing piles of other applications!

Does anyone feel like the additional background info questions that ask for 2700 characters and the goal statement feel redundant?

Also do you know what format should the additional background info questions be?

Thank you!
