Hello!
I know this is a bit early, but I'm planning to apply to the apply to the UCSF MEPN program (among a few others) this summer/fall. I've seen similar forums for past application periods, and thought it might be nice to get one started so we can start to bounce ideas and questions off each other.
Has anyone been to an open house? Any information worth sharing?
Hi friends!
I was wondering how some of you are going about the decision-making process once all of the schools to which you've applied have sent out final acceptances? For example, are any of you trying to get in touch with current students to get a feel for how their experience has been in the program? What other programs are some of you applying to? Does anyone know what the cons are of attending UCSF? Just trying to put some feelers out there...
Thanks!
I've found that some nursing school cohorts maintain active Facebook group pages. To get the inside scoop on another nursing program, I sent a message to the previous year's cohort group administrator on FB, and got a detailed response right away. It was an awesome wealth of information about how that program really works. Hope that helps!
I was actually JUST thinking about that... they said they'd try to confirm that they got our RSVP emails as they got them, and I never got a confirmation which worries me because the deadline to RSVP is tomorrow (I RSVP'd before New Year's). So, haven't gotten that confirmation or gotten the information about the interview. I think I'll email again today and post what I find out!
Hi,
Last year there were two sessions per day, morning and afternoon. For now, I would reserve the whole day...but day-of, you'll be asked to arrive either around 8am or 12pm. There should be a brief presentation with remarks from an administrator and an opportunity for some Q&A. Last year they provided lunch for the afternoon group. I cannot recall whether we drew appointment times or if they were preassigned but, depending on your place in line, you could be in and out fairly quickly or waiting in the classroom with other candidates. It's a chance to talk with others and eat, or to review your notes and collect yourself...They also offered brief tours of the department and surrounds that you might take before or after your interview.
Last year about 1 month elapsed between the finalist notifications and interview confirmations, so hopefully they'll be out momentarily - by email.
Hope this helps!
Another question I have- how does anyone afford to live in SF? Haha :) I know I can make it work somehow, but any insight would be nice for any future decision making if this works out. Especially for the first year where we won't be working, how is everyone planning on doing that? Loans?
I just wanted to let people know that i did receive a confirmation email when I RSVP'd but it was basically "OK thank you." It did not include any details on the day. Also, I emailed after New Years.
emara9, the Bay Area is really expensive right now but there are parts cheaper than living in the city, like the East Bay and the Peninsula, so some people choose to commute. Also some areas of the city are slightly more reasonable than others.
Best of luck on preparing everyone! I too am wondering if we are supposed to bring anything other than ourselves on the day of.
Does anyone know if our interviewers look at our application on the day of the interviews briefly, or would they have looked at it carefully before our interviews.
I'm just thinking about how much of my goal statement and personal history statement + the section where we filled volunteer experience should be included in my interview responses.
@holahawaii - from what I remember, they will only have access to your goal statement and personal statement. I was told this last time by my interviewers because they said they were trying to guess what school I went to from my statements.
They don't see the rest of your application, so it would be good to bring up other volunteer work or other things in your resume.
