  1. hi mepn2017, I am a current MEPN going into AGNP. The first year, your specialty does not matter, everyone has the same schedule. There are a few people who work and I think it is do-able. You will be busy all of the time and have to study when you get home, but some people make it work. However, I don't think it would work for you to miss class a few times a week. You will likely not pass and won't make it through the program. The people who do work have worked here and there in the evenings or weekends. AND let me be clear that I only know of one or 2 people who work out of a class of 60ish. In the master's portion, I think we are generally only required to be there three days a week so many people work. However, like I said, I don't think you will make it through MEPN missing classes. Best of luck!
  2. @arobie, this forum is actually from last year's application cycle. I believe there is a new forum for 2017 MEPN you can find by searching on all nurses.
  3. Hi PPMM, I had a similar experience with Nursing CAS. They never sent my info in to Samuel Merritt and never emailed me to let me know why. By the time I figured it out, everyone else was getting interview calls, so I was out of the running this year. Luckily I got in somewhere else. But I do think it is important to call Samuel Merritt admissions and let them know about our experiences so they can make it better in the future! Best of luck to you!!
  4. Has anyone heard anything about the Financial Aid situation at UCSF? I know the ever increasing cost is one reason some people are choosing not to attend. Do they offer good scholarships/ grants? I am just curious to know as I begin to plan the next few years. Thanks for any info.
  5. HI deboncoeur...just search UCSF MEPN 2016 on Facebook and select groups. It should pop up and ask to be added. Also you can send me a private message with your name and I will add you.
  6. lostasia, I believe in the past they have had a small waiting list, 1-2 people, just in case. I am not 100% sure but I think I remember reading it in some of the past threads.
  7. Nursing CAS made a mistake with one of my transcripts and are just now verifying my information. Therefore, my app was never sent to Samuel Merritt! I am frustrated and now realizing I probably missed my chance this year, since people are now hearing back. I tried calling the office to discuss but I was just able to leave a message. Has anyone else had problems with Nursing CAS? Good luck to everyone on your interview! Just relax and show who you are, you will do great!
  8. Congratulations everyone for getting through interviews!! And now we wait...
  9. I just found out from Nursing CAS that they are still verifying my transcripts and it might take up to 4-6 weeks! Ugh! What can I do now?
  10. I just wanted to let people know that i did receive a confirmation email when I RSVP'd but it was basically "OK thank you." It did not include any details on the day. Also, I emailed after New Years. emara9, the Bay Area is really expensive right now but there are parts cheaper than living in the city, like the East Bay and the Peninsula, so some people choose to commute. Also some areas of the city are slightly more reasonable than others. Best of luck on preparing everyone! I too am wondering if we are supposed to bring anything other than ourselves on the day of.
  11. Hi All, I have been anxiously awaiting hearing from SMU. I logged in to Nursing CAS and my application was marked as complete nut I don't see anything about it being verified. What does it mean?! Also, how did you all find the contact info for admissions?
  12. @blueandgold1919 what specialty did you apply for? I should get my letter when I get home today because I am local but I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO nervous now!
  13. Hi everyone, congrats on getting accepted to the SMU ELSMN program for 2016!! I am applying for the 2016 FNP program in Oakland for 2016. I was just hoping I could get some insight from all of you who just went through the application process. Any suggestions on what they might be looking for in terms of experience, TEAS score, and GPA? I know there has been some discussion in previous years but I was just curious about any new info. Also, any comments/ insights on the interview? I know I am jumping the gun a little here because if I do get accepted to interview, it won't be til next Jan or Feb, but it doesn't hurt to hope! Thanks everyone, and again, CONGRATULATIONS to those of you starting in Jan!!
  14. Yes that makes sense...but how is it different than your experiences working with underserved populations? Or do you think there is overlap here?
  15. Also, can anyone shed some light on what exactly "Community-based activities or experiences" means? It seems rather broad- anyone have some examples they might be using? Thanks!!
