I thought I would start a new thread. I've read quite a bit of the activity from previous classes and I thought it would be great to get a community of support started for those who have applied for UCSF's MEPN program... not just for us now, but for the future applicants who will read our posts! (: (the added bonus is this thread will be in gender neutral territory
Would love to hear the stories of folks who are applying to nursing programs (UCSF and otherwise).
Thanks!
Hi-
Here are a few answers to questions, I hope this helps.
The letter I received was just an email, no attachments or links or anything.
My letter wasn't an acceptance- it was a waitlist option with information about being an alternate. There wasn't any reference to a hard copy or anything coming in the mail (although it did refer to filling out the enclosed form if you want to be an alternate... which didn't exist in the email form... so maybe something else is sent later. Not sure.)
I just checked- my online status did not change- it still says, "under review."
Hope this helps those of you who are waiting and wondering... good luck!
Hello!
I am still waiting to hear as well-my application status says 'under review' and I have not received an email either. I live in the Bay Area and the mailman already came and went today...not sure what that means, but thought I'd share.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for posting your updates!
I also found out my decision yesterday via email. It was an email that said that a decision had been made regarding my application and then a link to follow back to the application and then on the application another link to a letter. Unfortunately, I was not selected for this year's cohort and was not given the option to waitlist. I had applied to the Midwifery specialty.
I have to say that while I am bummed, I can't say that it was unexpected. The other midwifery applicants that I talked with after the interviews had so much experience with birth! That being said, I do plan to spend this next year getting as much firsthand experience with birth and nursing as possible and to reapply in September. I am assuming that this was the part of my application that was weakest, but does anyone have any information on how to go about getting feedback for the next cycle? I remember reading a post somewhere about someone doing this...
Congrats to those who did get accepted and best of luck to those awaiting a decision!
Calinursetobe: I'm sorry to hear that...I didn't get in last year and it was incredibly disappointing. I ended up calling the admissions office and asked if I could schedule time to review my application and learn about how I could make myself a more competetive candidate next year. I spent about 15-20 minutes with an admissions officer (on the phone) and they basically went through every piece of my essay and told me where I scored lowest.
I was really hard on myself for not getting in, but when I talked to the admissions officer he assured me that I was a competetive candidate and that it's just a huge, top-notch cohort and they have to make hard decisions. I'm sure it was a tough decision for admissions this year as well. Don't give up! Apply again next year. I have lots of friends who were second or third time applicants and eventually got in and now they're STOKED with the program.
Du courage.
