I thought I would start a new thread. I've read quite a bit of the activity from previous classes and I thought it would be great to get a community of support started for those who have applied for UCSF's MEPN program... not just for us now, but for the future applicants who will read our posts! (: (the added bonus is this thread will be in gender neutral territory
Would love to hear the stories of folks who are applying to nursing programs (UCSF and otherwise).
Thanks!
I tried to find an emoticon that describes my current emotional state (which is some combination of confusion, anxiety, excitement, hopefulness, and straight fear)....but none of them suffice. I'm going to practice some of the dean's breathing techniques and chill the bleep out...and remain hopeful that we'll soon know our fate! Du courage, folks.
Hi all,
I saw in a prior post a notice to make sure that we apply for financial aid by March 2. As I began to freak out that I hadn't even started applying, I consulted the MEPN section of the UCSF financial aid office and I learned (I think) that this March 2 deadline is *only* for continuing students.
There is a note that says "Entering Masters Entry Program in Nursing Students have a deadline of April 9, 2010."
Here is the link in case you have more questions: https://finaid.ucsf.edu/application-process/deadlines-and-important-dates
I thought I'd post in case anyone else was worried about this deadline!
Hmm.. I have heard "priority deadline" March 2nd over and over from different schools I've been interviewing at. I don't exactly know what "priority" refers to but I decided to submit my FAFSA just to be on the safe side. Btw.. it took me about 30 minutes, if that (including a call to their help line for a question). So if you're worried about it I would just go ahead and do it so that you don't have to think about it anymore. Also don't worry if you haven't filed your tax return yet because you can add that information in after you have submitted the FAFSA. Well I guess it's all over but the waiting.. and waiting.. and waiting... Good luck everyone.
I've also heard the term "priority deadline" and my understanding is that filing by March 2 gives you access to certain types of aid if you would be eligible- like certain grants, work study, etc. Filing after March 2 doesn't mean that you won't receive aid, but it might limit what KIND of aid you can receive. That being said, I filed late one year and the only thing it affected was my work study eligibility (which most probably won't consider anyway due to the time demands of the program). It really doesn't take too long though as Sandman mentioned, so if you have a few minutes today I would just get it done! You never know if you might be someone who does benefit from the early filing deadline!
I was thinking that maybe they dropped off the letters on Monday and they were processed by the post yesterday...so today might be the day! I'm really hopeful that we'll hear something by the end of the week.
That emoticon has nothing to do with how I'm feeling...just thought it was super random. Really? A smoking smiley face on a nursing board?

I stumbled across this blog last night and decided to call the Student Affairs Office today. I just got off the phone with someone who said that acceptance letters are going out this week...he also had a chance to read some of the posts and suggests we all try to calm down a bit. Hopefully this info helps settle some nerves.
good luck to everyone!
