UCSF MEPN Applicants for 2010 entry

Published

I thought I would start a new thread. I've read quite a bit of the activity from previous classes and I thought it would be great to get a community of support started for those who have applied for UCSF's MEPN program... not just for us now, but for the future applicants who will read our posts! (: (the added bonus is this thread will be in gender neutral territory ;)

Would love to hear the stories of folks who are applying to nursing programs (UCSF and otherwise).

Thanks!

I submitted my FAFSA as well...I think you're supposed to submit your FAFSA regardless of whether or not you have been accepted to schools.

I was accepted to Johns HOpkins and I have to send in my deposit by March 8. I guess if I don't hear back from UCSF by then, I'll just have to eat the $500. :(

Does anyone have a contact at UCSF who would know for certain when letters go out? I recall March 1 being the date as well. The March 15 business was a suprise to me...

I think its strange that the dean would tell some of us March 1 and others March 15th. Perhaps the date is different for different specialties? Perhaps they had us separated by specialties during the interviews...

I interviewed for PNP on the morning of January 22nd. I was told March 1.

I was there on the afternoon of 01/22 interviewing for FNP. Also told March 1st.

sfcentric, If it makes you feel any better I gave a $400 deposit to a school already as well :( Thanks for the confirmation about the fafsa.

That's an interesting hypothesis. I was also a 1/22 interviewee and I heard March 1. I wonder if someone can confirm that. I didn't get a good vibe from the person at student affairs. She seemed annoyed, probably because heaps of stressed out pre-MEPNers ask her the same questions...

For those concerned about turning in their FAFSA too early....I called UCSF Fin. Aid office about a month ago, and the woman I spoke with told me to go ahead and submit my FAFSA for the MEPN program. She said that once I am accepted, I can fill out the rest of the UCSF Fin. Aid forms since by then I will have my Student ID #.

Hope that helps!

And my goodness, March 15th!!! Say it ain't so!! :crying2:

Hi everyone. I interviewed on 1/29 and was also told that letters will be postmarked no later than March 1st. I work at UCSF though so I will try to go over to the nursing office tomorrow or Wednesday on my lunch break and confirm that... I too have been accepted to other schools and Penn, Hopkins and Duke all have deposits due prior to March 15th. I am still having a hard time deciding whether or not I will go to Penn or UCSF if I get in. It will be a lot better to have a little extra time to think about my decision! I will let you all know when I get a straight answer

Lord, please let this March 15 thing be a nasty rumor-I can't take the wait much longer! I interviewed for FNP on 1/29 and the dean said emphatically that letters would be postmarked March 1, and I'm going to keep trusting him! And I too have been compulsively checking my online status...still "under review"!

Thank you in advance for checking, KellyJH!

I hope it was just a rumor as well...the woman I spoke with didn't seem all that sure about what she was saying. I asked her to double check. She did and came back with March 15. Ugh.

I'm gonna chime in here too! I interviewed on the 29th (a.m. session) and remember the dean saying emphatically that they would have the letters postmarked March 1. I know that doesn't mean it is written in stone, but he made it sound like their moral and ethical duty to have them done by then!

Given that, I think the march 15 info is wrong. Well, at least I really hope so!!

Good luck everyone!

This is sounding like a broken record now but I also remember hearing "postmarked by March 1st". Then again they also said there would be a tour after the interviews and then it never happened and the interview directions were confusing.. so maybe they are just disorganized? At the very least they have someone uninformed answering the phones in the admissions office which seems strange. Well I guess in the long run it wont matter much but I also have already put down a $500 deposit at another school and a delay could cause me to have to make even more hard decisions! UCSF have mercy and let us know! End of rant.

I hear you, Sandman. Does someone else want to check with admissions? Not it! (Finger to nose).

From looking at last year's thread it looks like emails were sent out this same night last year (the thursday before March 1)... I'm still hoping that the same will happen this year... Good luck to everyone who is anxiously awaiting news!
