UCONN CEIN 2016

Published

Hi everyone! I thought I would start this thread to see who is or will be applying for UCONN's CEIN 2016 accelerated nursing program! I am new to this board, but read several threads from last year and learned a lot about the program and application process. It would be great to hear from others who are in the same boat as me. :)

Hi everyone,

Well i just got accepted to the Cein 2016 program and would like to congratulate everyone else that has been accepted. I wasn't able to get my first pick so I was wondering if anyone else has been accepted to the Avery Point campus, and if so what will you do for housing. Wondering if someone could maybe help me out with where is the best place to find clean cheap housing near the campus. Thanks for any help.

First of all, congrats! Second of all, do you currently live in CT? We have quite a few people (myself included) that commute over an hour to the AP campus instead of moving. Sometimes you'll find that clinical sites may possibly be closer if you live elsewhere (not always, but sometimes). Just something to think about depending on where you live currently. :)

I was just wondering if anyone could state how much time or how many days per week are dedicated to classroom and clinical, only questioning this because I would be applying with a BS in Health Science and need to maintain my 48 hour flexible workweek as a paramedic. Is each program at the different campuses structured differently? Just curious.

Hi thanks for the response yes i do currently live in CT manchester area. Yeah you are right it does depend on where you are doing clinical. Well thanks for the info.

More details I believe are earlier in this thread, but one day of class (that depending on the campus may change in the summer), two days clinical, and one day lab depending on the semester. All the campuses are pretty much set the same. But not all clinicals are created equally. For peds, the schedule wasn't just two days of clinical - we had shorter days and one week I believe I had something for clinical on four days, some weeks just once.

We definitely have a few that commute from up that way! As for clinicals, the options may be different next year, but (ones that would be close for you) for psych we had clinicals in Manchester and Hartford. For peds we had Hartford and New Britain. For maternity we're in Hartford and New Britain, again. If you play your cards right you won't have to travel down to New London for L+M! :) Oh! And everybody that lives right near AP and doesn't want to commute that far will love you!

Hello! You will DEFINETLY not be able to maintain a 48 hour work week in this program. There is one full in classroom day which is 8-6 I believe (the day depends on the campus) 21 clinical hours per week, and I believe 1 or 2 lab days. I've heard that the most people work is 2 shifts the most per week but that is still very very difficult. I am planning to try and work at least 1 night as a waitress

Yeah I think from what everyone is saying, it sounds like the community college program is more feasable, considering there are now many more masters programs that allow for ADN RN's with bachelors of science degrees, thank you for the information.

Got my acceptance in the Avery Point! Glad the wait is over! Congrats to everybody else that have been accepted and I will see you guys during orientation.

As for the housing in Groton, I know the navy submarine base is over there so there are plenty of housing options. But like the others said, there is only 1 day of class so maybe try to find somewhere close to wehere you are going to be doing the clinical.

Agains Congrats !

Congrats everyone! Looking forward to meeting everyone. Is there anyone from the Litchfield Hills area? I'm in Northfield.

ok so I have questions about financial aid and finances during the school year. I got the email about fiancial aid today, didnt have a chance to go on that website yet. Its said everybody's award a certain amount from staffrd loan, however, I have already complete my bachelor degreee and am pretty sure I used most of my federal aid.

What kind financial aid options do I have? low interest loand, scholarship, grants, etc.

Since I have to quit my job to go the school full time, what are you guys doing to prepare/work through the school year financially?

Hi all,

Question for those of you already in the program. Can anyone shed some light on the "breaks" that are listed in info session power point? It says we have two weeks off in April and August. Are we completely off or do we still have work or clinical hours to do? Thanks in advance!
