Hi everyone! I thought I would start this thread to see who is or will be applying for UCONN's CEIN 2016 accelerated nursing program! I am new to this board, but read several threads from last year and learned a lot about the program and application process. It would be great to hear from others who are in the same boat as me. :)
Hello! I am applying for the CEIN 2016 program. I have 2 outstanding pre reqs and was told not to apply unless they are finished because they just throw you under the pile. Planning on applying for the June deadline at waterbury campus. Just wanted an insight on other pals GPAs and experience. Does anyone know if they review as they come in? Or after the June deadline. Are they in order as they come in?
I'm class of 14, at Waterbury. When I applied, they did not look at anyone unless prereqs were all finished, except during the August admission date. Based on posts here, it looks like they've changed that a bit, which makes sense to avoid the crush at the end.
To my knowledge, the admissions committee gets together after each deadline to look over the whole stack and deliberate. Remember that we're talking about people who work at different campuses around the state, so getting everyone together takes more coordination than would be practical to review applications on a rolling admissions schedule. Also, when I called about something on my application shortly after the deadline, I was told they would need to track down my folder because it was elsewhere in the building with the admissions committee members, not in the office at that point. So an early submission probably isn't going to get you admitted any faster than someone who submits on the deadline day.
Do keep in mind that they hold a portion of spots for June and again for August, so there's no danger the class will fill up before they get to your application. I applied on the afternoon of the August deadline, a transcript went missing, my resume didn't properly upload (which I did't know for a week because the notifications were filtered to my junk mail), and I had one prereq to do in the fall - and I still got in. My prereqs were all As, but I have no idea what my overall GPA is since my coursework consists of a bachelor's from one school, a master's from another school, about half of a master's from a third school, and prereqs from four different schools.
I think letters of recommendation and answers to the application questions are weighted heavily. My class had a pretty eclectic mix of backgrounds and experiences, so I think they are looking for dedication, passion, and character as much as academic achievement. One of my professors said they mostly accepted people with at least a 3.7, so it's definitely competitive and you need to show you can do the coursework. But obviously there were people with lower GPAs because they're looking at the whole package and judging your potential as a nurse, not just as a student who can get As.
Hope that helps.
KMN5091, I sent you a request. I tried to figure out how to send a direct message but I am new to this so can't figure it out! I hope to see you at the Waterbury campus then! I am finishing my last 2 pre req finals today. I have an overall gpa of 3.65 and I propose I will be getting a 3.62 for my pre req Gpa. I do work as a cna, and have some volunteer work. I'm hoping my letters of recommendation are going to be good as well! Do you know if they accept as the applications come in? Or only after the deadline ? ..... And I can't believe it took you this long after applying to find out you were accepted!!!
Hey ya'll! I've been reading this page for a while without posting, but here goes!
I was wondering if anyone has a Master's degree/PhD. And if so, did you put your highest degree on the application, or your bachelor's and just included your graduate degree on your CV. I'm planning on applying soon for the June deadline and don't know what to do! Thanks!
I just started taking the prerequisites, so I won't be able to start this January coming up, but tell me about the program??????? Anything you can tell would be helpful. How intense/hard is it? What makes it hard, the classes or the time it demands from you? How long before did you apply for financial aid/loans?
Thanks in advance!
Hi! Congrats to those that have already received their acceptance.
I recently applied for the June 30th deadline. I still have one outstanding prerequisite that I am taking now. I know it has only been a week since the deadline, but was wondering if anyone heard anything? I wasn't sure if they started reviewing prior to the deadline. I am patiently waiting for a decision.
GL to those that are still waiting!

Hi RNlady, I applied for the January deadline and found out recently that I was accepted to the Waterbury campus. I was told by the admissions office that the committee was reviewing people with 2 outstanding pre reqs. Not sure if it was just because I was already in progress with them or not. I would definitely send an email to the cein email address to find out. I had a 3.61 GPA overall and around a 3.8 for the pre reqs, onyl had a B in chemistry and B+ in genetics. All the others were mostly A's and 1 A-. Good luck! I'm hoping to meet some more people from the Waterbury campus before school starts. It's going to be a hard year but if we work together we will get through it!
