UCONN CEIN 2016
Hi RNlady, I applied for the January deadline and found out recently that I was accepted to the Waterbury campus. I was told by the admissions office that the committee was reviewing people with 2 outstanding pre reqs. Not sure if it was just because I was already in progress with them or not. I would definitely send an email to the cein email address to find out. I had a 3.61 GPA overall and around a 3.8 for the pre reqs, onyl had a B in chemistry and B+ in genetics. All the others were mostly A's and 1 A-. Good luck! I'm hoping to meet some more people from the Waterbury campus before school starts. It's going to be a hard year but if we work together we will get through it!

Got my letter a couple of days ago and I have been accepted to the Waterbury campus with 2 prerequisites remaining. I have accepted admission but am still waiting to hear back from a couple other schools.

I have not heard anything and I applied to Waterbury as well. I have two pre-reqs that I am currently in the process of completing.

Seattle University APNI 2015
I decided on the FNP track because I would like to work with a varied population, not just pediatrics or adults. I didn't think I'd really enjoy working with children until I substitute taught. That was a really eye opening experience for me. I was previously pre-med but after a few shadowing experiences I decided it wasn't for me. The thing that always differentiated the APRN from the physician was that they spent more time with their patients and really seemed to have a better understanding of them. I want to have that relationship with the patients. I am not sure how my GPA will be, as of now it is a 3.51 but I expect it to go up the next semester. So I think that should be decent but I am counting on my life experiences to be the main component of my application. I still have to take the GRE and have the psych courses to complete for pre-reqs.

Direct Entry Program Acceptance Rates
Does anyone here have any information as to what the acceptance rates are for these programs or have a ballpark? I am considering applying for 2015 and am trying to gather as much information as possible . Looking to hear about others' experiences.

Summer Work
I am looking at trying to jet a job in a family practice or pediatrician's office this summer. Obviously it would just be a job assisting around the office. Therefore, I am going to contact larger family or pediatric offices as they might be more likely to hire someone for that. Any ideas of what I could offer to do? I thought about probably taking patient information and keeping the exam rooms stocked. Looking for other ideas that I could offer. I am very interested in this as I want to get practical experience and strictly volunteering is not an option as I need to have some cash on hand throughout the year (I am entering my senior year of undergrad, not for a BSN but in biology/biochemistry as I plan on hopefully doing a direct entry MSN). If I had to chose between regular family practice or pediatrics, I would love to do pediatrics as I love children (I substitute teach part time throughout the school year too). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

APRN vs PA
I am working towards the entry in a direct entry nurse practitioner program. I am pretty certain after my experience in hospitals and volunteering that APRN is the route that I want to go but I would still like to compare it to PA. Wherever I read any comparison about the two, mostly on forums, the differences between the two seem ambiguous. Does anyone know of a really good article or something like that that compares the two? Thanks

Pass/Fail and Admission
Hi all, glad that I found this forum. I am currently a biology undergrad student in my junior year. Through my freshman, sophomore, and first part of junior year, I was pre-med. However beginning junior year, I have been in an internship with a local family practice. At first I was with the physician but as time went on I grew interested in what the role of the APRN was and began shadowing and working with her. As my interests peaked I started shadowing over at the hospital and I've decided that I could see myself more in the role of an APRN than a physician. My plan was to enter a direct entry APRN program and work part time as an RN while pursuing the APRN part of it ( I have found programs that are decelerated for the APRN section so that students would be able to work). Up until now I was working on an academic schedule to finish all the prerequisites for medical school, including physics. Physics has not been my strong point and I got a B- in it the first term. Because I decided that I no longer wish to pursue medical school I decided to pass/fail it for the second semester. This is the only course I have ever pass/failed before. I currently have a 3.5GPA and I still have to complete a couple prerequisites for nursing such as psychology etc so I am hoping it will go up (looking at the classes I will be taking, it should). Since I took physics as a pass/fail, will this hurt my chances of getting into a program? I know it is not required but I am not sure how the masters program would take it. I just did it pass/fail because I didn't want it to drop my GPA if I didn't need it for anything in graduate school. Any advice is appreciated as well as advice about pursuing APRN. Does anyone know where I can look up the acceptance rates for APRN programs? It seems medical school acceptance rates are easy to find but APRN acceptance rates remain elusive. Looking forward to hearing from anyone. Thank You!
