UCONN CEIN 2016

Published

Hi everyone! I thought I would start this thread to see who is or will be applying for UCONN's CEIN 2016 accelerated nursing program! I am new to this board, but read several threads from last year and learned a lot about the program and application process. It would be great to hear from others who are in the same boat as me. :)

Did you hear back even though you didn't complete the pre-req yet?

edit: I read through the whole thing again and see that it is okay!

You can apply as long as you are either doing or registered for you pre reqs, but I think you can only have one that hasn't been actually completed. So say you applied in the summer and you had one class left to do in the fall, that would be fine as long as you give them your transcript ASAP.

Hi everyone! Im late to this discussion but hope someone can answer my question :) I am taking my prerequisites beginning this fall and registered for CHEM 120, Survey of Chemistry at WestConn (the chemistry course they require for BSN) but it is not listed on the CEIN acceptable courses list. Has anyone taken that course and have had it accepted? I appreciate your help so much!

I have not taken it as I lived on the opposite side of the state during CEIN and prereqs, but call the school and talk to them asap. If they can approve it that's great, but don't waste time and money on a course that won't help you get into the program (particularly because if they don't accept it and you apply you're going to be considered an incomplete application without plans to take the appropriate Chem). If they won't take it this should give you plenty of time to find a Chem class they do take. Best of luck!

It's accepted! Yay. So happy I found this board ... The support is wonderful í ½í¸Š

Hi everyone, I know this thread is old but I was just recently accepted to the CEIN program for 2017 at Storrs. Question for anyone currently enrolled at Storrs: what time are the clinicals generally? I just called and was told 7-5 or 2-10 most likely. A little confused as to why 7-5 is a ten hour clinical while 7-10 is only 8? If anyone has information about the general day/evening hours it would be greatly appreciated! Also, I unfortunately will have to work part time during the program in order to pay my mortgage and afford my bills. As of now my schedule is beginning at 5pm on Wednesday and Saturday. Am mostly concerned about being able to work Saturday. I've heard from some people who have completed the program that this won't be an issue at all while from others I've heard different. Can anyone share their experiences with this?

First of all congrats! I am currently in the program now. The hours that you get for clinical depend on the semester and clinical rotation. They requires so many hours per rotation that you need to complete. Also, you of get to pick your clinical rotation in a way. For example you will get about 4-5 places with specific times to choose from and you will label your choices from 1-4 with number 1 being your first choice and 4 being your last. You can also switch with someone if they are willing. I hope this helps.

I replied to your question on the 2017 forum but want to elaborate. I also work part-time and the program can be very inflexible at times. Most often we don't know when our clinical sites will be until a few weeks before the next semester. I work in a hospital that requires 1 month advance notice and at the beginning of every semester I cannot work because the school does not provide you with clinical schedule until it is too late. I have also had clinicals on Saturdays twice so I wouldn't assume that it can't happen. Not sure what kind of work you do but you may need to discuss this with your boss and see if they can be flexible with you!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your reply jlb14014. I have heard from others about the preferences and have been told you can leave a comment as to why certain clinicals may not work for you over others. Were you typically granted the preferences you listed?

Yes, I was. However there were some that were not so lucky.
