UCLA Summer 2016 RN New Grad Residency Program

Hi everyone! I wanted to make a forum to connect anyone that is applying for UCLA's new grad program starting this summer! Post below if you're interested in applying and which units you're interested in. I'm thinking about SICU, oncology, and the OR.

Anyone interview with CTICU? I had mine and the UD was very intimidating... Such a nerve wrecking experience! I hope I wasn't the only one who felt this way haha

I agree! I felt like my CTICU interview was very different from nursing interviews at other hospitals. That felt like the fastest 20 minutes of my life, and I expected to be asked more questions then they actually asked.

I got an email from UCLA for reference checks on Monday, did anyone else get one? And does anyone know if there is a deadline for the reference checks to be completed?

I agree. Mine was pretty fast as well. Well, they said they were running behind schedule. They did not ask a lot of behavioral questions compare to other nurse residency programs I interviewed at. I know what you mean. I did not get an email for reference checks.... I hope that means I am not out.

Can anyone from PICU update me on where you are at in the process? I still haven't heard a word. Not even a rejection letter. Anyone else in the same boat?

But I had a similar experience with the CTICU interview. I could not get a read on how the women felt about me, and it seemed way too quick. They also did not give me a chance to ask any questions, and I definitely had a few! Guess I just have to wait and see!

Nope, nothing. I'd like to know soon if I'm at least waitlisted or not since I'm out of state. Oh man all that flying and time for just that 20 min interview haha.

When did you all have your interview? I just had mine on May 17 so I haven't gotten a reference check email. I'm assuming they will send more out within a week. I'm also out of state so I definitely hope it was all worth it! I asked the assistant manager and she said they accept around 10 people usually and I don't think there are second interviews for the CTICU which helps for those of us out of state.

From previous UCLA threads, they say references should be done within 24 hours but I'm not completely sure about it so I would do it asap if you've gotten the email!

I did my interview May 16th and received the reference check email that same day- to give you a time frame. Best of luck! Hopefully the process is just stalled for some reason!

Sorry for the late response. I ended up interviewing with UCSD. Hopefully that's one nurse short for the 5MN telemetry unit and gives you folks a chance! :)
