UCLA Summer 2016 RN New Grad Residency Program

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to make a forum to connect anyone that is applying for UCLA's new grad program starting this summer! Post below if you're interested in applying and which units you're interested in. I'm thinking about SICU, oncology, and the OR.

Does anyone know if there are second interviews for psych? It totally slipped my mind to ask.

It was on May 17th. When was yours? Have you heard or received anything yet?

Thanx for the info! My interview went ok. It wasn't bad but there was definitely room for improvement. How about yours? I probably saw you there, my interview was at 11. I picked SMH but made it very clear that I would happily go to either. Which one did you choose?

Oh you probably did see me, I was the last person from 10 slot, my interview started at 11 and ended at 1130. I think mine went ok as well, it was a pretty positive experience though. Just never know what they are looking for or who you are up against. I chose RR because I work at a county hospital right now so I'm familiar with the pt population that RR serves. However I did say that either one is fine too! lol. good luck to you! if i find out anything ill be in touch, I've been speaking to 2 other perinatal candidates throughout this process as well so we've been updating each other

I still haven't heard back yet. I called HR today to see if second interviews went out, but they said that it all depends on the unit. HR doesn't of which units called out for second interviews. So we just have to sit tight and continue waiting at this point.

Hello all! I wish I had seen this post much sooner! :jester: I had been stalking the old cohort forum for the longest! LOL

Here's a rundown of my application experience for anyone interested...especially if you applied to the MICU at RR.

I am from out-of-state, Colorado.

I applied March 11th. The MICU was my first choice and MedSurg was my second. My application was 'routed to interviewing supervisor' after approximately 11days! I checked daily haha!

I graduated from my BSN program March 18th! Woooo!

I was contacted for an interview on 4/7 for the MICU... MIND BLOWN!

I scheduled my NCLEX for May 10th and the interview for the MICU on May 12th at 9am...Talk about a hectic, nail-biting week. Gah!

It seemed there were a TON of people interviewing for the MICU position, so I'm a bit surprised that the MICU presence is so low on here. My interview lasted about 20 minutes. Wasn't as treacherous as I had imagined it would be for my very first nursing interview!

Prior to them calling us to the back for the interview, we were required to complete a form asking (two) behavioral-ish type questions. They called me back there before I could finish and it was no deal breaker. I was instructed to finish after the interview and submit it to the receptionist on my way out. Cool beans. About 3 hours later, I found out that I passed my NCLEX... Talk about a big day PACKED with nerves!! Whew!!

I flew out the same day but I scheduled a much later flight in case they wanted to interview me again that day. Based on what I read in older forums, I knew it was a possibility. That didn't happen. I had a feeling it wouldn't work out that way though because (1) I didn't ask to be considered for a same-day interview and (2) after my interview that started at 9:30, the interviewers informed me they had 17 more candidates to interview! Sheesh!

So, the very next morning 5/13 around 10AM, after I had already left the state, they called me back for a second interview to tour the unit!! Honestly, as costly and inconvenient that may have seemed since I was JUST there the day before... I was just happy to be getting that call back! This is literally my dream hospital & location, so I'm willing to do whatever it takes for this ONE opportunity. Not sure if I would've done it for any other organization LOL. They stated that the second interview would take place between May 23rd - May 31st...so basically a little over a week later!!

I scheduled my second interview for May 25th... They expressed to me that this would be the last time they would ask me to fly out since I am not local. So to be smart I'm flying in a day early and flying out one day later...JUST.IN.CASE!!

Honestly, I'm hoping all of this is a sign for some really great news to come in the near future.

Good luck to anyone else still going through the interviewing process. Congrats to everyone with offers already!

Question: Has the Facebook page for the 2016 new grad cohort been created? If so, could some awesome individual please provide me with the name?

HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND ALL!
