UCLA Summer 2020 New Grad Residency

Wouldn’t our cohort not be starting until Aug/Sept anyway? Hopefully they will put the apps out by May. Lots of other SoCal hospitals I’ll be applying to don’t open their apps til May/June also.

If they put the apps out at a later time then that could potentially mean the start date would be pushed back too since you have to think about the time it takes for them to review, conduct interviews, make decisions, and all the HR paperwork.

Just saw this from their website:

"We are closely following the situation surrounding COVID-19 and are taking all necessary precautions to reduce its transmission. We are therefore delaying the Summer 2020 RN New Grad Residency application period. The new application dates will be posted on this page as soon as they become available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please continue to watch for updates on this developing situation."

? I feel like this is going to end up happening to lots of the programs

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to be a tiny bit helpful with some information about the new grad program at UCLA. I'm a care partner at UCLA already and I've asked around about what's going on. That said, take my information with a grain of salt because I haven't heard anything directly from the new grad program coordinator.

Only thing I know for sure is that the new grads my unit hired from the Winter cohort were supposed to start in April but they have been delayed until June. And my unit was supposed to start interviewing for Summer 2020 new grads in may, but that has been postponed too. My unit manager does not have any definitive time frame for when they will start up again but I do know that the hospital will get back to normal starting next week (elective surgeries and what not). So if I had to guess, the applications will open in June some time. It's only a guess though. I hope that helps.

Thank you for the update! Do you think they will be delaying the start dates as well? The program usually started late August/early September. I am graduating in a few weeks and want to be sure that I will be able to get my license in time, but the testing centers are really backed up, some people aren't able to schedule until July.
