UCLA new RN residency program 2010

Published

Hi,

I just wanted to start a thread for people applying to UCLA's new grad program this year. I have filled out the application online, but wondered if I should send a hard copy too. Does anyone else have any information? I heard that for the last new grad class, they had more than 800 applicants for 80 slots. Kind of discouraging...

Have All your references completed the questionnaires?

mine have, just waiting to be done with the teleplus interview now.

So I applied on Oct 25th at 8pm, but still have not gotten an email or phone interview. Just wondering if anyone else who applied around that time has received either the email for references or phone interview yet? Getting kind of worried =/

All my referenced has a completed status. Waiting for the interview too.

Sorry I meant I did not receive a request for my references yet =(

I applied on the 29th and haven't heard a thing. I think the competition is so tough out there I don't expect to hear anything. Especially because my status just says received not, "contacted for interview". I'm thinking at this point I won't be contacted at all. sad, but i didn't have high expectations anyway.

on the other hand, GOOD LUCK to all that got interviews!! I still want to hear all about the process and give all those selected a big congrats when you find out!

I did the Talent Plus interview - it felt like it went well. General questions, not necessarily nursing related. Their website says they "identify top performers". I was nervous but afterwards realized I didn't have to be. There's really no way to prepare for it, except to think about situations in past where you've dealt with a challenge or something...standard interview questions. I did it last week and now I guess I wait to hear from them. The person who does the interview writes up an eval which is part of your application, I think. Good luck to everyone...it's a tough job market out there. But UCLA is one of the best hospitals in the state, so worth trying for!

i have teh the interview today,so nervous!

i think i just completely ruined my chances of getting in to the program :[ i did awful with the phone interview!!

Not necessarily...it was a strange interview, and you might just THINK you did badly.

The woman who interviewed me put down the phone several times to let her dog in and out of the back door (!) and at one point was obviously reading from the wrong page in the script, because she asked me how I felt when I 'made a big sale over the phone". I had to politely say that, as nurses, we didn't make cold calls/do sales, etc. Except that sometimes we have to "sell" a patient on complying with an uncomfortable procedure or persuade them to follow a certain plan of care. Anyway, don't give up hope!

As nurses I think we all or most of us tend to worry a lot. Just relax I'm sure you did your best. Some people think they did a good job and others think they just totally failed it. It's up to them (UCLA peeps) to decide and it's a guessing game on what these people want. Be happy you're done with this part. Think positive. You have come this far in your education. Perseverance is your greatest asset :)

I have not been contacted by them yet either. I'm pretty sure is the fact that my program was Associate degree. If I would've known things were going to be this bad for ADNs, I would've gone to a BSN program. I have a 3.9 GPA, graduated with honors, years as an LVN, excellent letters of recommendation from clinical instructors and my current manager. So frustrated.

it's difficult for ADNs applying to Magnet recognized hospitals because there is a requirement for Magnet-designated hospitals to hire about 90% BS graduates and the 10% ADN. At Cedars, there were 50 spots in their past new grad program, where they hired only 3 ADN graduates.

My numbers may not be accurate but there is a majority that they need to hire.
