UCLA New Grad Residency Winter 2018

Published

Hi, everyone! I wanted to start this group for those who will or are still thinking about applying to UCLA's new graduate program!

We can talk about applying, any rumors we've heard or just anything in general.

I started a Facebook group too (since other groups have in the past):

I was wondering what sort of Behavioral questions they have been asking? My interview is tomorrow

I was wondering what sort of Behavioral questions they have been asking? My interview is tomorrow

Most of the people I've spoken to get these questions:

- tell me about yourself

- why (the unit you're applying for)

- why nursing

- what are your strengths (i always like to have 3 prepared)

- what are your weaknesses

- give an example of a time you experienced conflict and how you got through it

- what is your proudest moment in nursing/nursing school

- if you bring a portfolio, they ask questions about it or they poke through your resume and ask about that

Hope that helps! Good luck!

I had my interview for Acute Peds today and I think it went really well. The unit directors were so friendly and we really had a conversation throughout the interview and shared some laughs as well. They were really intently listening to my stories and answers, which was very pleasant to see.

The only downer of the day was having a HUGE delay in my interview time. Acute peds and peds hem/onc actually merged interviews so they could share candidates and float them between units as new grads. That being said, only one person interviewed with both UDs instead of one UD interviewing one person at a time. Our times got backed up and I ended up waiting three hours to interview :(

Once my time got around it was great and totally worth the wait. I was sent to the unit to interview with the charge RN, clinical nurse specialists, and some staff nurses and a care partner. I think it went really well.

The UDs said they'll have their decisions made by Friday. Peds is only hiring 6 people total and we should be finding out within two weeks from now. They said if I don't hear back by then to call HR. HR is the only contacting us, not the unit.

Good luck to all of us!! We can do this!!

I may or may not have missed this in the thread but has anyone received an interview from the ICU?

I got a second interview with L&D tomorrow! Any insight on what to expect in the second interview? Will it be more clinical based than the first?

Can't speak for L&D but I interviewed for PICU (1st with unit managers in the HR building and then 2nd with 4 PICU nurses at Ronald Regan). I was asked similar behavioral questions that the HR managers asked such as:

-tell me about yourself

-why nursing, why PICU

-how do i handle stress

-strengths/weaknesses

I didn't get any prioritization or clinical based questions.

GOOD LUCK!

Did you have your both PICU interview on the same day?

Yes same day, the unit managers asked me if I had time to do part 2. Hope we all hear back soon, getting very anxious.

I hope, but they're taking such a small group this cohort. But no, I'm in state/ local applicant.

Has anyone interviewed for Medical ICU? I'm curious if they offered a second interview the same day like other units have. Good luck to everyone!

Hi Everyone,

All interviews are done and we will find out by Friday, is that correct?
