Has anyone heard anything back from the UCLA New Grad Summer Program for 2010? I applied in the beginning of February and have only had a phone interview so far, with no feedback yet. Any info or others' experience would be much appreciated, thank you!
Hi there nurseteeeee! I am new at posting so I'm unsure how this really works, but I read about you getting hired for cardiac step down! congrats! I am interviewing for that unit on tuesday and I was hoping you could grace me with some interview tips and share your experience. I can't PM you is what my inbox says, but maybe you can PM me? I am unsure how it works. Thanks in advance for your help.
Thanks for the tips newRNallie.....ugh this is all so stressful. This will be my first interview I've had and I'm stressed about it plus I have to worry about flying to LA and getting to my interview and everything! For those of you who have already interviewed, how long were your interviews? And has anyone interviewed with the PICU?
Thanks so much nurseteee! i really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. You mentioned that you were interviewed by a female so I am pretty sure that it will not be the same recruiter. I have to meet with the nurse recruiter first, and then take the shuttle and interview with the unit director. Did you have the same experience? I will take your advice and wish for the best! Thanks again!

Hi there are previous posts that also give interview tips...and there are several threads going in addition to this one; they've all been helpful to me. I agree with what other people have said, about trying to project confidence (which of course you might not actually feel!) and what helped me was just to really bone up on the diseases/conditions I might encounter as a nurse on that unit. I looked at my care plans from school to refresh my memory about interventions, protocols, infection control, etc. I also reviewed the common drugs for those conditions and patient safety issues as they relate to inpatient care. I also looked at the shift schedule I had for clinicals (some nurses call it their "brain"), in case they asked me a question about time management or how I did things. Last but not least, I had a few examples in mind for the "how did you handle a challenge in the past" question. That has been a constant in every interview I've ever had, and when I did hiring in a previous job, I asked it too! Good luck!
