Hi everyone! I have started working on my application for the UCLA MECN program for Fall 2022 and didn't see a forum so I decided to make one so we can experience this process together and help each other out!! ?

Can someone who is currently in the program share their experience so far? Ie. How well do we get to know our classmates?
Does your cohort typically have study sessions together?
How often do you go to clinicals per week and how is the traffic? 30-40 minutes one way?
How close should we live to campus? Any apartment recommendations for those not familiar with LA?
Thank you!!
As someone who is living in Westwood, I would highly recommend living south of Wilshire Boulevard. The housing is MUCH cheaper and MUCH nicer! It takes me about 20 minutes to walk to my lab (which is next to the Factor nursing building), or you can take the Bruin Bus which is about 6 minutes! Traffic in LA is absolutely terrible, so sometimes a 3 mile drive can take 15-20 minutes.
You can look on bruinshack like someone previously mentioned, or you can also look on the UCLA facebook Housing page where some people will post their leases!

If your cohort will be in person, I would assume you would know your classmates well. Prior to the start of the program, some students hosted a meet and greet, which I highly recommend. You will get to know your classmates only if you put in the effort if that makes sense?
Study sessions with the cohort are optional but highly encouraged. We usually have open zoom study sessions once a week to go over material and concepts as a cohort but again this is optional. Be proactive in planning this.
Clinicals start your Winter quarter. One 6/hr shift during the first 5 weeks OR the last 5 weeks. You will be split. You DO NOT get a choice or preference between Reagan or Santa Monica or when you are in the first or second half. The next quarter will be one 12hr shift again for 5 weeks. This will progress every quarter until you are working a typical nursing schedule.
Traffic is absolutely horrible. There is construction everywhere due to the Metro subway extension into Westwood. I live in the south bay and I die every morning waking up.

hey sorry to bother you about this but do you know of anyone else in your class this happened to? It was like radio silence then your email came randomly the 20th? I didn't get an email when everyone else here got theirs for waitlist/acceptance and I just want to know if what happened to you might be something I should hold out hope for or if your situation was so unique that I should accept the no email as a rejection. I felt like I was a competitive applicant but after Friday I feel like an absolute idiot for thinking that about myself LOL.

I'm not sure if this happened to anyone else in my program. Yes, it was radio silence until I got my letter. I remember the first time I applied I didn't get any rejection or waitlist letter. The second time I got a waitlist letter was the same time people were getting their acceptance letter then a few months later I got an official rejection letter.

Haha this is how I feel. Part of me is holding on to oh but maybe there will be a second batch. I also thought I was pretty competitive but I haven't heard anything from UCLA and got waitlisted by Irvine. But keep your head up! I was super upset at first but all we need is one school to give us an acceptance. Best of luck!

Thanks so much for taking time to tell me about your experience it’s helping me get some closure bc I’m sure it’s the end of the line for me. I’m really glad you were able to get into the program and I think you’ll be an awesome nurse!!

I am in the same boat as you. Radio silence from UCLA and UCI. At this point, I might as well just secure my acceptance from Johns Hopkins! Good luck everyone and congratulations to those who got in ?
Has anyone gotten a rejection email yet or has their portal changed at all? I emailed UCLA and they said we should get an email regardless of our admissions decision from the Graduate Division or we can log onto our portal and it will be there as well. I didn't ask about timeline though. Since they had told us by end of Feb we should at least know by then. Otherwise I will for sure ask HAHA.

@FNfaye I haven't heard anything back from admissions. I emailed them earlier this morning to ask about the status of my application and haven't received a reply. You're not alone! ?

I found the YT channel that has some great insight to the program from someone graduating this year. https://Youtube.com/channel/UCtEngzjGNSQrykWVtsIYyhw
also for housing checkout bruinshack.com, it has some good insight.
