Hello all, I'm preparing to apply to UCLA's Master's Entry Clinical Nurse (MECN) program, and so have decided to start a thread for others that planning to also apply and/or interested.
Taking into consideration that admissions begin September 1, 2017 and end on November 1, 2017, this conversation will hopefully progress from now (the lead up) through the time of notification for acceptance/denial/waitlist (between February and April 2018).
In the meantime, is anyone planning to attend any of the upcoming information sessions?
Hello,
I am planning on applying for the next cycle. Can anyone provide some guidance on how to apply? I keep clicking on "apply now" and it keeps circling me back to the same page that describes the program. I know applications are not open YET but I wanted to see what the process is and what questions to answer for the personal statement.
Try as much to have all your prerequisite subjects ready when you apply that way they have a better gauge of how you will perform in the program. Only the Epidemiology requirement is allowed to be taken when the acceptance decision has been made. Also, the personal statement is a 3 page essay-- be very specific about situations that show your leadership skills (UCLA is very big on leadership) and why you want to be a nurse. Cardinal rule-- NEVER SAY YOU ARE TAKING NURSING AS A STEPPING STONE FOR MEDICAL SCHOOL. Nursing and medicine (although both in health care) have different approaches to health goals. As corny as it may sound, write from your heart, write about diversity, about your struggles, that despite life hurdles you somehow come out victorious. Last, aim for a GPA of 4.0. Goodluck!
I was also wondering how we can check whether our letters of recommendation were received. My recommenders all confirmed with me that they sent the letters, but they told me that they never received a confirmation email. I sent an email asking whether it would be possible to confirm the receipt of my letters, but I haven't heard anything yet.

I don't think that there is a way to check on their website but I did receive an email from the admission coordinator yesterday. They just gave me an update on my application along with what materials has been received (like letters of recs) and what materials I still need to submit. Maybe you will receive an email from them soon.
I've also lost access to decision desk. I emailed MC to check on the status of my application back on 11/30 (when someone else in this forum received an email from them) and he indicated that I'd be receiving an email with a status update on any missing components in the following days. Still no word, though. I imagine that they are just going through hundreds of applications trying to figure out who is missing what... I plan on emailing for an update either at the end of this week of beginning of next week (once about 8-10 days has passed).

No I was not able to. The module shut down pretty early in the process so I'm assuming majority of applicants were not able completely input all the information. I believe they won't send out any information until mid November.
