  1. How do you feel about your chance of acceptance into the UCLA MECN program?

Hello all, I'm preparing to apply to UCLA's Master's Entry Clinical Nurse (MECN) program, and so have decided to start a thread for others that planning to also apply and/or interested.

Taking into consideration that admissions begin September 1, 2017 and end on November 1, 2017, this conversation will hopefully progress from now (the lead up) through the time of notification for acceptance/denial/waitlist (between February and April 2018).

In the meantime, is anyone planning to attend any of the upcoming information sessions?

I am not applying for this admissions cycle. Although, I am going to an info session august 15th. I feel that by going it might help me consider other ways to strengthen my applications if need be or in general calm my nerves and get ideas! UC Berkeley senior here.

bayarea123,

That sounds great. I hope you get all the information needed to improve your future application.

Hello! Good luck with your applications. I was accepted into the cohort starting this Fall and graduating in 2019.

I would HIGHLY suggest attending the info session, and start working on your statement NOW.

Just fyi, the application opened late last year (I believe 9/26) so don't freak out if that happens to you. Just have everything you need prepared. The application deadline was NOT pushed back even though the application opened late

Monsie86,

Thanks so much for the advice. I have a quick question... What's the general breakdown of your cohort in terms of age, gender, et cetera?

Well, we haven't met each other in person yet, but we have orientation in 3 weeks. From the Facebook group we seem to be a fairly diverse mix. Definitely a pretty strong male presence, some students just graduated undergrad this year while some of us are "older students" with families/children

That sounds great. It must be so exciting to be three weeks away from starting… I've been reading last year's thread to get an idea on when people began to receive notification of acceptance, which has me a bit nervous. I really appreciate your feedback. I've been a bit frustrated at the lack of content (i.e. YouTube videos, etc.) from recent students enrolled in the UCLA MECN program.

Hey, I have another question that you might be able to answer. I noticed a broken link on the UCLA website titled, Post-Master Certificate” (UCLA School of Nursing | Admission Requirements and Deadlines). I'm wondering if UCLA plans to offer certificate programs as an option for MECN students to become advanced practice nurses. Did they mention anything about this to you?

Unfortunately, we aren't actually starting in 3 weeks. We have orientation but classes do not begin until 9/28 (it's been a looooong wait since acceptances were sent out on 2/15)

I have no idea about their plans to offer post-masters certificate programs, but I am also not interested in advanced practice so it's not a priority to me that they do. You could ask at the infor session, or email someone in the admissions office (I usually emailed MC and RF) they were usually very quick to respond

Monsie86,

Great to hear from you again. I actually called admissions to ask about the post-master's certificate. They said it's something the School of Nursing is hoping to offer in the future.

Here's another question. Did you take the epidemiology course prerequisite at UCLA this summer or did you already have that requirement completed?

Anyway, I would love to hear all about how orientation went for you. That's if you have time.

Hey guys! I am applying to the MECN program as well. I attended the information session this past Tuesday. If you can make it to any of the upcoming sessions I highly suggest going. I am so nervous!!

piaondemand,

Thanks for the post. I plan to attend the upcoming info session in August. So, I'm curious to know if you were more nervous before or after attending the info session?

I was more nervous before. The info session provided me with a bit of relief. One thing that everyone there stressed was to get a head start on the statement of purpose. I believe it plays a large role in the admissions process.
