  1. How do you feel about your chance of acceptance into the UCLA MECN program?

Hello all, I'm preparing to apply to UCLA's Master's Entry Clinical Nurse (MECN) program, and so have decided to start a thread for others that planning to also apply and/or interested.

Taking into consideration that admissions begin September 1, 2017 and end on November 1, 2017, this conversation will hopefully progress from now (the lead up) through the time of notification for acceptance/denial/waitlist (between February and April 2018).

In the meantime, is anyone planning to attend any of the upcoming information sessions?

Monsie86,

Great to hear from you again. I actually called admissions to ask about the post-master's certificate. They said it's something the School of Nursing is hoping to offer in the future.

Here's another question. Did you take the epidemiology course prerequisite at UCLA this summer or did you already have that requirement completed?

Anyway, I would love to hear all about how orientation went for you. That's if you have time.

Hello again, I saw something about them possibly doing the certificate program through UCLA Extension in the future.

Personally, I took epi online through UCB extension. I enrolled in the course a few days after I got my acceptance. I know quite a few people who went that route as it costs significantly less than the course at UCLA, and I wanted my summer free. Yesterday at orientation there were definitely a lot of people who chose to take it at UCLA.

Monsie86,

Sounds great. Thanks for the comments about epidemiology. For this entire summer I searched for an online course or even an in-person course in epidemiology (at SoCal schools) but found nothing. UCLA extension was also a dead-end. For that reason, I assumed the same for UCB extension and didn't even bother to look. After hearing you completed the prerequisite there, I looked into it and found an available course. Thanks for that. It probably sounds trivial but I've been obsessing over the task of checking off each and every requirement; and in doing so sooner rather than later. That's one less thing to stress about, especially considering what all I have to do this upcoming semester.

Besides that, I'm surprised there aren't more posts from people who intend to apply. Maybe they'll come as the application window nears. Even still, I really appreciate your comments. LOL... You could've just rode off into the sunset after receiving acceptance, but you've chosen to stick around to help us through the process. -Thanks

I started a thread about this as well awhile ago. I plan to apply in September. I am attending the August Info Session.

Epidemiology can be taking at UCLA after being admitted. So if you don't have it, don't stress. A friend of mine works there and also graduated from the MECN and NP. He gave me contacts to there and thats what I was told. All other pre reqs must be done but epidemiology can be done after admission at the school. Which is cool because I was looking around as well and they have a list of approved courses from other colleges that they will accept. Just go to their pre req section and you will links to approved listings for each science course.

Good Luck.

They do not include Post Masters but they have the Master of Science in Nursing – Advanced Practice Registered Nurse But it says its for graduates of BSN programs as nurses.

Hey everyone,

I am planning on applying as well depending on these questions I have maybe someone is able to answer. I am taking the chemistry pre req course in the fall and it's a series so I technically won't be done until winter qaurter. i know it says we must be done with a Pre reqs by December but I am hoping since it's a series in progress they'll still look at my application.

Also, I took 2 psych. Courses but it's not general psych. Does it matter?

Other than that all my Pre reqs will/are done in time.

I would very much appreciate any advice.

Did anyone try to apply for the MECN program? The application supposed to open on 9/28 but it still says to wait on school's website.

never mind, it is open now.

I am also applying for 2018!

I have one more prerequisite to complete (not including epidemiology; will take at UCLA if I get in) which is physiology I will be done with the class in December.

Had issues with the recommendation letters, it was visible and I was able to send out some emails but now I can't! Anyone else?

I just checked and looks like the recommendation section is not available now, but it should come back soon.

I'm applying for Fall 2018 as well! Does anyone know if we have to do the personal history essay? It says optional...

@rbccwu I emailed them and they said that no it is not required and won't even be looked at.

@futureerrn Oh awesome, thanks! It's about to be a looong couple of months of waiting haha
