UCLA MECN 2016

Published

Hey there, I am planning on applying to the UCLA MECN 2016 program and was wondering if anyone else out there was applying as well. Just curious about other applicants and hoping to go through this application process with some other people! Would love any feedback. Thanks :)

Just received an email that I need to send in my official transcripts from the 2 schools I have attended by January 15th, 2015. Just to keep updated with eachother. Soooooo nerve racking. Goodluck to everyone!

@RinaMariee yea just send them in because they need official transcripts. Yes it is very nerve racking but hang in there! I received an email also to submit my recommendations but I will use the same recs from last yr. I applied last yr but but didn't get in. I'm hoping this yr I will finally get in.

Hello future nurses of the world... I got the same email from UCLA.. an update bout my app... just happy they got my app.. I just have to send them my pre-reqs grade / transcript for fall 2015 by jan 15,2016... i wonder how many are they gonna accept for fall 2016....

Hi guys and gals, I just received an e-mail from UCLA stating that my application is complete. Big issue I have is that my physiology class is still outstanding - I took this class about 6 years ago and they only allow physiology to be 5 years old. I'm in a rut since the school I took my physiology course in won't let me retake it since I passed it already. Now I have to find another school that will offer the course in the evening (since I work) in the Spring. I'm sure most of you are aware that these classes are very hard to get into, especially if you don't already have priority registration. If this is the determining factor that leads to my rejection, it's really going to suck. I am a Biochemistry major who took my remaining prereqs last year (got A's in both). I am positive I am more than competent in sciences, so it's worrisome for me that I'll be rejected because my physiology course was too old.

What about you guys? Were there extra hoops for you to jump during your application process? I'm also taking my TEAS next Monday - yet another hoop, haha.

You have until September if you are accepted. I sen someone who previously posted that someone they knew took Physiology during the Summer at UCLA. I have a few pre reqs left to complete but I will have them done by May ... If anything happens I can do physio at UCLA if I'm accepted. I still think I have a good chance of getting in. Look into Summer school. You might find evening classes! Just do research... I pray your accepted! Don't give up! It's too early.

No worries! There are plenty of classes offered at community colleges and some colleges offer it on the weekends also. I know someone that was admitted without completing two prerequisites so it's possible. I know it sucks because I had to take that class over again since it's been over 5 years! Also check for classes offered online. You have time!

@peacewalker do they know about your situation regarding your physiology class being expired?

Thank you all for the warm encouragement. I received an e-mail stating that my physiology class was outstanding, which most likely meant I need to retake it. It's just awful because it's another hoop to jump through, but I guess you have to do what you have to do. Since I already passed it, I can't retake it at the community college I went to, so I'll have to find another community college. Then there's the extra struggle to work with administration to get enrolled, and then petition for the class if it gets full. Nursing school, or at least getting into one, is definitely a marathon - LOL! If anything, I hope they'll let me take it UCLA - provided that they find the rest of my student profile exceptional, of course. I don't know about you, but I find it very hard to stick out when you're competing with all very qualified candidates (I'm sure you all are). I certainly hope that this program looks at more than just grades (it seems to advertise itself to be), so that it gives everyone a chance.

Good luck to everyone as well. I hope we all get in - keep those fingers crossed. :)

Hi there! I was unable to go to the information session, but was anyone able to get any information regarding the strength of an applicant? I know that they don't do interviews and therefore your personal statement is critical, but does anyone know how much a necessity clinical experience is? Some places seem to give the more "holistic" view than others but when I went to speak to admissions they were very vague in their answers.

Hi Nursenerd,

I read your posts. Don't worry about it too much. I think you're allowed to take a course up until the very semester before the program starts, which would be summer of 2016. You should be fine. Just keep trying and have faith. Never allow any barriers to stand in the way of something you really want. You can do whatever you put your mind to. You didn't come this far to be let down. Besides God is ALWAYS the Ultimate decision maker in EVERY situation. Never worry about someone taking what God already has in store for you! If there is a spot meant for you in the program then its going to be your spot regardless! Good luck to everyone! Hope this helps!

@MsNurseNerd - have you considered taking Physiology online?

Does anyone know when we should expect to hear about admission decisions? Do they all come out at once? The wait is killing me!
