UCLA MECN Fall 2011

I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.

Ok y'all so I just called the Director of Student Recruitment and Outreach (we're not supposed to mention names on allnurses).

I asked her two specific questions:

...for those of us who have yet to hear anything, will we only be receiving information via mail? She said "yes".

...when were those letters/packets mailed? She said "this morning" (Friday).

Now I can enjoy my weekend without this pressing urge to constantly check on the status just in case we could hear at any moment. I hope this news will also bring some peace to my fellow applicants-in-wait! Also, it seems pretty promising barring any rogue omissions or glitches... :hugs:

p.s. Lisa, I hope you're enjoying your time away and...I am a tad bit older! ;)

Thanks for this. Like you said at least I won't feel the urge to check online 24/7 but it makes me nervous. My mail came today and nothing again. I guess maybe Monday or Tuesday....darn it!

I remember reading on another thread that we're not suppose to use names, sorry I didn't mention it earlier but I'm glad you did.

I didn't get in either. I'm very curious too. I also felt my weakest point was my undergrad gpa (3.0 as well) but I received all A's in my pre-reqs. I, too, thought the work and life experiences, volunteering, and the letter of recommendations (2 from 2 deans at USC, which is where I work) would be in my favor. Truthfully, I'm disappointed but will pursue other options. Good Luck to everyone!!

Did you email someone to find out why you were not accepted? At this point, it's just a curiosity. My weakest point was my undergrad GPA (3.0). Unfortunately that was 15 years ago and nothing I could do about it now. I thought my prereq grades (all A's and 1 B in psych), letters of rec, work, volunteer and life experience would outweigh my undergrad GPA.

I sent an email last night just to ask why and still have not received a reply. Maybe too many people are bombarding her with the same questions. UCLA was my 2nd choice so although I'm disappointed, I'm not devastated. Definitely lots of other schools out there with great ABSN and accelerated masters program. So just keep moving forward.

Hopefully those of us who are still waiting are either accepted or waitlisted. Last time I called the program coordinator, she seemed to remember my name although i only contacted her once via email regarding my transcripts..like one month ago.

I heard from a mecn student how she was surprised to see all the staff at the school knew everyonez name when she attended the orientation. Maybe im over analysing but hopefully this will keep me positive over the weekend.

If im denied. Oh well.

Thanks for checking on that, curlyq28. I'd be curious to know what factor differentiate those applications from the ones that have already been notified. In either case, good luck to anyone who's still waiting and try to have a great weekend, everyone! (Even if that means getting drunk with a few trusted friends in the comfort of your home. :))

I was just reading through the notes I took when I attended one of their info sessions last fall. Unless they changed their mind afterwards, they are waitlisting 40 applicants.

Ok so I checked on the website today and I was denied. :( I have been checking for a few days and it kept saying "submitted" I guess i didn't go all the way through. I needed to click continue then enter my password. Once I did that a copy of the denial letter came right up. I am not too sad since I already got into another school that begins in May and have started the entire process. I just received my scrubs yesterday in the mail!!! I could have slept in them I was so happy!! It sure would have been nice to be accepted to UCLA though!! Oh well I am still very happy with the school that I will be attending.

If anyone doesnt have access to the status website here it is http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gasaa/admissions/applicat.htm. Click on Decision Status, put in your email, click continue, then enter in your password. Good luck to all!!
