UCLA MECN Fall 2011

Published

Hello,

I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.

Curly!!

I'm rooting for you =) I live vicariously through you.

I was just told their biggest concern with my app was my prereq's not being completed (i only have 2 left). But i suppose they are big ones.. chem and micro. I had a perfect gpa, so it adds to my confusion as to what these committees want. Oh well, life goes on .. now i can sleep lol :yeah:

Who did you talk to about this? I want to call them and ask about mine. I have all my prereqes done and a great GPA.

Curly! Let me know if you got a letter in snailmail! I haven't heard anything either!!

Hi TV2Nursing,

"I was just told their biggest concern with my app was my prereq's not being completed (i only have 2 left)."

Did you email someone to find out why you were not accepted? At this point, it's just a curiosity. My weakest point was my undergrad GPA (3.0). Unfortunately that was 15 years ago and nothing I could do about it now. I thought my prereq grades (all A's and 1 B in psych), letters of rec, work, volunteer and life experience would outweigh my undergrad GPA.

you can email the assistant dean, dr. cardin. at the info meeting i attended last summer, she said that if you're rejected, she's happy to talk to you about your application.

we shouldn't beat ourselves up. who knows what the heck they're looking for. i have a BA from UCLA, a masters from USC (both in the arts, though) and have A's in all my science classes. that's not to say i deserve to be accepted, but i had hoped to be waitlisted at least. heck, one of the posters was accepted by John Hopkins but rejected by UCLA.

i guess i'll allow myself to cry for one day and move on to plan B tomorrow!! :)

thanks lilpeapods. I'm already drowning my disappointment in a tall Mocha frappaccino.

Hi All:

I emailed Dr. Cardin.

From the looks of it, it seems as though the committee had a really good applicant pool to sift through. We all have great stats!

Good luck everyone!.. especially those who haven't heard yet.. i'll go stalk your mail man with you lol.. (how i remain so positive I don't know.. lol)

By the way.. has anyone researched other options MSN or Accelerated BSN? Can you please pm me so this thread doesn't go off track?

I couldn't apply to any other school besides UCLA b/c I had two many prereqs ongoing at the time the other apps were due.. but now I'll just have a few.

Thanks in advance!

HOw fast did it take Dr. Cardin to get back to you?

she was fairly quick about it.

So it's 2:15 PM PST and I STILL don't have a status update on my application. Although "listening" to you guys is scaring me. I have 1 prereq in progress and I think it's a major one (Physiology). Story's kinda funny. I did take that during my undergrad (got a B) and I retook it another college after since I took that class more than 5 years ago. Of course out of all the science courses they put a time limit on, it would be that one. And unfortunately, although I got an A on the retake, they didn't recognize it from the school I took it from. Currently suffering through it for the 3RD time and it would REALLY suck if this has been for nothing. URgh! With my luck, I might be applicant #599 with a not-so-good NEWS. I'm still praying and hoping! LOL

It's a no for me too. I guess I'll be heading to Vanderbilt. Good luck to everyone.

I'd just like to say that whenever the economy is down people go back to school. Lots of qualified people get denied, it's just the way it goes.

I still don't know about my decision but I know that like a lot of you here I have strong qualifications. If I don't get in this year I'll reapply to UCLA and apply to more schools next year.

I'm not giving up on this because I know it's what I'm suppose to be doing!

Good luck and keep your chins up!!
