UCLA MECN Fall 2011

Published

Hello,

I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.

Well I just called her because I also have not received a decision.. She said that the decisions are still being sent out and that I will be getting it via snail mail shortly. Hm....given that they are sending out 600 decision letters, I guess it takes some time for them to get to us all..

Thank you for checking! It's torture that our decisions are not posted online but sent via snail mail. More waiting....

...same here. & i thought i had a strong app & recommendations. :(

Just because many of us here weren't offered admission doesn't negate our strong credentials, and definitely doesn't mean that we won't make wonderful nurses in the future. :nurse: It seems very clear to me that many of the people on this forum are dedicated to excellence in nursing - and that kind of commitment will take you far!

It simply means that we don't fit the criterion for what a particular school during a particular year. There are so many factors that go into decisions that are within our control (like our grades, extracurriculars, etc) but there are also so many other factors that are out of our control. I might be going out on a limb here, but I feel like many schools seek to create a diverse incoming class that come to nursing from different geographic regions and walks of life.

Who knows exactly what a certain school has in mind when they look at applicants? And just because you might not have what a specific school is looking for in their incoming class doesn't mean that you might be exactly what another school is looking for. Personally, I wasn't offered admission at UCLA as well (nor was I offered admission at USD), but I did get accepted to Columbia and Johns Hopkins!

maybe you guys are right... i should hold out for a BSN or MSN. now that i'm finishing up my last two prerequisites, i'm eligible to apply to CSUN and CSLA for 2012 enrollment. thanks for the heads up regarding who they are hiring.

as for mount st. mary's, it's too darn expensive, unfortunately!!

But time is money too. MSMC's Accelerated BSN is only one year. Think about the $ you'd save from one year less of room/board and one more year of experience and income. Just a thought :)

Well said! That is so exciting! Congrats on Columbia and JH!!!!!

very, true, mikomay! though, i just checked out their site. tuition is approximately $53,947 per year  i would also have to complete two philosophy courses and a religion course prior to applying.

you are right, though, that time is money.

For those of you who are considering MSMC's program: Some community colleges offer classes such as these online. In my experience, knocking out some of these prerequisites online has been great because I don't have to worry about commuting, being late to class, etc.

Just keep swimming:

Congrats on Colum and JH! Did u get into the BS to MSN program?

Thanks! And to answer your question: Yep! Well, kind of. I've gotten into the BS/MS ETP Program at Columbia, and the BSN part of the Combined BS/MSN program at Hopkins. I'm still anatomically bound to my cell phone and stalking my postal workers to find out about the MSN decision at Hopkins.

MSN applicants are required to interview, and during mine, my interviewer told me that if I am not accepted to the MSN section right off the bat, I would have a better chance at getting accepted after they see how I would do as a BSN student at Hopkins. Makes sense, I suppose. Though I think it would be less of a "pins and needles" situation if I knew both decisions...

TV2Nursing, I'd bet on your spidey-senses! Sorry that some of you didn't get in this round, but I am sure you will get in somewhere that will also hopefully be great for you! Although, like some of the others, I too am still waiting for my decision status...

Curly!!

I'm rooting for you =) I live vicariously through you.

I was just told their biggest concern with my app was my prereq's not being completed (i only have 2 left). But i suppose they are big ones.. chem and micro. I had a perfect gpa, so it adds to my confusion as to what these committees want. Oh well, life goes on .. now i can sleep lol :yeah:

I just checked online and it doesn't have a letter. I am dying here! Please post if you receive letters in snail mail today! This waiting is torture. Did anyone get in yet??

same here! i was told by dr. cardin that my prereqs weren't completed (am taking microbio and stats right now) and that my statement of purpose was moving but they wanted to know more about my personal experience about what it means to be a nurse (or something to that effect). also, on their website, they say that it's okay if not all your prereqs are done as long as they are completed prior to enrollment, so i'm confused. i have straight A's in all my prereqs.

oh well, it's hard to know what they are looking for.
