Hello,
I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.
Hey everyone. I am a first year MECN and I just wanted to wish you all luck :) I remember exactly how fraught it was waiting to hear! I wanted to give a special shout out to anyone who gets wait listed. About 1/3rd of our class got in from the wait list so don't be dejected if that happens. It's rough because you have to wait longer to know for sure, but there is definitely still a lot of hope. Most importantly, don't take the nursing school admissions process personally. The system isn't perfect, and they don't interview. Florence Nightingale herself could have been rejected! So good luck and feel free to ask any questions. Look forward to meeting a lot of you in September :)
hey guys im new to this thread after accidentally discovering why obsessively doing research on the MECN program. I'm glad to see there's other people here as anxious as me. I'm starting to lose sleep over whether or not I'll get accepted. I was told by the coordinator that they'll be making decisions at the end of February and we'd have our letters by mid-March, but it looks like last year's group was told as early as March 3rd. I'm a little discouraged that rejects and acceptances all go out together, usually other schools send out at least most of the rejects much earlier. omg i just can't take this anymore!!!!
Hi all!
I'm glad I found this thread- I've been following another one for Duke- got wait listed on that program and now all my eggs are in the UCLA basket!!
I saw a date of March 3rd being thrown around- has anyone contacted the school to see when letters would be sent out?
thanks and good luck to everyone!
i was told we'd have our answers mid-March by the coordinator but I have a feeling it'll be more like beginning of March from looking at the 2009 and 2010 group. so what's your first choice between Duke and UCLA if you get accepted to both?
If I had to chose I would go to Duke- it's a 16 month ABSN. I already have a MS so I don't care about that. I just want to be a nurse and this program is amazing!
I was very disappointed about Duke- I really thought I'd make the first round. Way too many people applying for very few spots right? I know my application was strong but now I'm doubting everything. I think I read here that over 600 people applied to UCLA??? That's insane!! What's the expected cohort size for the fall?
Hopefully you still get a spot! You never know, people might have another first choice they are waiting to hear back from and might decline their spot. It's still early, a lot of programs don't get back to their students till March/April. I got into an accelerated program at another school but I'm waiting to hear back from UCLA, which is my first choice. Duke is a really good school tho : )
Yeah I heard 600 people applied too. That's what the admissions committee predicted, that's 200 more than last year! That is the most I've heard so far from all the schools. During the information session I went to last summer, they said the cohort size is about 60 and they have a waiting list. I heard about a third of the wait list ends up getting in, which should show you a lot of people decline their acceptances last minute, so don't lose hope!

I believe the earliest notification date that someone posted last year was March 3rd.
I wonder how the review/selection process works (i.e. how many pairs of eyes does each app get? who actually reads it? etc).
I don't think I'll be able to rest easy until I hear back from UCLA!!
