UCLA MECN Fall 2011

Published

Hello,

I saw that the MECN application for UCLA has been posted today. Is anyone applying to the Fall 2011 program?? I haven't found a thread going on yet...Maybe we can share our questions/concerns regarding the application process here.

Also, my friend is in the program and said they received over 600 applications this time. Anyone else hear that?

I also applied for fall. I'm getting nervous about my chances in light of all those applications!

How does your friend like the program? Do you know what Nursing Fundamentals book they are using? Or any other required textbooks for the first year for that matter?

My friend likes the program although she says that it is very very intense. We both received our Master's of Public Health at UCLA about 4 years ago and we have both worked in the Public Health field since and she says this is even harder.

I have met alot of the other MECN students through her. She studies alot though and is doing well. She says that sometimes, she thinks she is in medical school (referring to the amount of content that they are learning). I am not sure which books they are using though as I have not asked her. Also, she was accepted and still had 3 pre-reqs to finish when she applied. They look at alot, not just grades and pre-reqs.

Thank you for your response, lisapett42. That's good to know that your friend was accepted even though she had 3 prereqs left to complete. I still have two prereqs left to take in spring semester.

It sounds like you have a fantastic chance of getting in due to your public health experience. I have a bachelors and masters in the liberal arts and absolutely ZERO healthcare experience (unless you count caring for my mom while she was very ill). I hope that doesn't work against me.

After some sleuthing, I figured out that they use Potter's Fundamentals of Nursing book!

Good luck to you and all the other applicants on this thread!

Don't worry. I know that my friend's class is totally diverse in backgrounds, age levels, professional experience and education. They have everything from dancers to public health people and all of the in between. At the info session, they assured us that they don't look at just one aspect and that they take every part of the application into consideration.

As for pre-reqs, I am taking one now and still have one more left to do in spring. I think my Microbio class at UCLA extension is 3/4 people that applied for the MECN program! We all had to state our purpose for taking the class and almost everyone said nursing.

I hope people post when they start hearing news, so that we all know when to start looking. I know they said early march. Good luck!!!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know I finally received an email confirming that my application is complete. I had work in progress from the fall so that delayed my application. They said that once your application is complete it will be sent for review. I can't wait to hear! The suspense is killing me!

I am getting anxious as well! : )

same here... i've got major butterflies as this was the only school i was able to apply to!!!

I also got my confirmation email a couple weeks ago after submitting a transcript for a course finished in Dec. Lilpeapods, you and me both!!! :clown:

I think, technically, we could hear back anytime from late Feb. to mid-March depending on our outcome... it can't come soon enough!!

In the same boat; this was the only program that I was able to apply to as of now. Good Luck everyone!

Hello all! I just found this forum and decided to join in. I received an email stating my application is complete, so I'm waiting as well. Does anyone know when they will be notifying us? Is there an interview process?

hello mase15- There is no interview for UCLA and I think we should hear around mid-march. Just a little while longer!

oops! I checked last years thread and it seems that they were notified around the beginning of march. Sorry about that.
