UCF 2010-2011 accelerated nursing program

Published

I am applying and have requested all my transcripts, I did decent on the Teas test with an 86. Undergrad gpa 3.45, pre req 4.0

I went to the info session last month it was a bit of a pain :angryfire to sit through just to get the application passcode because of all the redundant you should do some research if your serious questions lol.

I am excited and hope to get in to move forward with my life goals of community health nursing.

I am also applying to UNF's program too. Their website is really detailed with everything I ever wanted to know. One of the few schools that have their stuff together.

I got in too!

Can't wait to meet you all!

Patience is a virtue. I got my acceptance and would of been stressing if not for patience. A friend told me "you built it, it will come". I never expected it to be so quick, wow it was sent yesterday. Nice surprise on a day I need to go spend money on a new car radio, makes the day better. I have a decision to make about which program to attend.

Congrats to all...

quick question to those that are planning to attend transfer orientation (for UCF, not the program-specific orientation). I think there are only two dates prior to our program start date - April 2nd and May 14th. If anyone is planning to attend one of those sessions, maybe we can try to meet up as a small group. Would be nice to have a few introductions over by the time we start in May. :)

Just an idea...so let me know if anyone is interested.

Did I mention that I'm so excited???

What is the program start date by the way?

Since we are doing the accelerated program...are we considered a transfer? I thought we had to attend the regular orientation?

I believe that because we have a prior degree, we are considered transfers. But you could be right, so I'll call on Monday to clarify.

As for the program start date, I can't seem to find that information on the website. Based upon last year's group, they had 2-3 days of orientation and testing (not sure what this is) and then the program started the following week. This was around the 15th of May. I am certain that they'll send out this type of information after all of the responses to admission are received on the 19th.

I received something in the mail from UCF undergrad admissions that said I had to attend transfer orientation.

As for the nursing school orientation I haven't heard anything about that date but I'm almost certain nursing classes follow UCF's regular semester schedule and summer begins May 17. I'm pretty sure our classes are summer C so they run from May 17 to August 6.

Yep you are correct. May 17 is the start date and we are transfers. The orientation is $40 bucks no way of getting around it. They do not have much information on the nursing website about things like this.

ex I never saw notifications were to be sent out March 1st on that website.

Congrats to all of you that got accepted into the Accelerated Program at UCF!

I was in the Accelerated Program and graduated in 2008. This program was NOT easy. You guys will definately need and rely on each other for the next year and a half. You will barely see your friends or family. Some of you in committed relationships will break-up and maybe even divorce unfortunately. Most of your time will be spent studying, attending class and clinicals. But in the end, you will learn what you need to know to pass the dreadful NCLEX and you will build lasting friendships with your fellow classmates.

The first semester, the summer, seemed to be the hardest for me. It was so fast paced with papers, group projects, community work, tests, etc... I remember the first week feeling like it was a month and I cried everyday becuase I felt so overwhelmed with the amount of work we had to complete, and I was not the only one who felt like this. In the first 2 weeks I think 2-3 people dropped out. Even in the very last semester a student dropped out and it was not because she was failing, but she felt nursing wasn't for her anymore. Some of the professors you will LOVE and others you won't like so much. Ask questions when you don't understand the material and study with your fellow classmates as much as you can, that helped me A LOT. If it were not for the help of my classmates I don't think I would have passed a few of my classes. The second semester, rumor had it, that "Adult I" seems to be the most failed class in the program. In my class we had at least 5 students fail and have to be placed in the Basic Program. (4/5 continued on and graduated in the Basic Program) Pathophysiology and Pharmacology were also difficult classes for myself.

Working: I quit my job before I started the program due to me living so far away from UCF. (I lived in Kissimmee, near Poinciana). If I had worked and lived close to the campus I wouldn't have quit. But I spent much of my time driving to school and to clinicals. But at the end of the 2nd semester (Dec.) I applied for a position as a Nurse Tech and I was able to work 8-12 hrs per week. I know the program doesn't highly suggest working, but if you notice on this forum, many new nurses lately, are unable to find positions since most jobs want you to have 1 year of hospital experience if not more. Maybe if you have a job on a unit already as a Nurse Tech the Nurse Manager may be impressed with your work ethic and want to hire you as a GN (Graduate Nurse).

I wish you all success in completing the Accelerated Program at UCF! If you have any questions, just let me know and I will try to answer to the best of my ability since I graduated almost 2 years ago.

^Thank you for the insightful information.

Anybody not get in or accepting the welcome letter?

I know my friend didn't get accepted, Jasmine. That's why I was reading this thread in the first place to fiind out the first day of school/orientation because I know not everyone accepts and that if she contacts the school of nursing that day maybe she could take someone else's spot that decides nursing isn't for them or that they want to go to another school.

I got in as well, but I feel like I have so many questions that are unanswered by their website. When is transfer orientation? Is it positive the start date of the program is May 17th? Ill be going to UCF in the next week or so to look around for apartments, that should be fun. Anyone have an idea of where theyre going to live?
