UCF 2010-2011 accelerated nursing program

Published

I am applying and have requested all my transcripts, I did decent on the Teas test with an 86. Undergrad gpa 3.45, pre req 4.0

I went to the info session last month it was a bit of a pain :angryfire to sit through just to get the application passcode because of all the redundant you should do some research if your serious questions lol.

I am excited and hope to get in to move forward with my life goals of community health nursing.

I am also applying to UNF's program too. Their website is really detailed with everything I ever wanted to know. One of the few schools that have their stuff together.

Does anyone know what all is included in the nursing pak (Lab Kit)? It costs $183 but I can't find where it says what is all included in the kit. For $183 I would like a little more information.

I looked at that website and I couldn't find anything...I was thinking about calling the company and asking.

Yeah I looked it over too and couldn't find anything. If you call them and ask post it on here if you don't mind, I'm very curious.

in regards to ormcs tuition reimbursement it's not as easy as one would think... i work at ormc now and researched it before deciding not to work while in school. you have to work here a minimum of six months before you qualify for the benefit then you have to work a minimum of 24 hours a week and maintain that while your taking classes. they reimburse you after you finish the classes and you have to agree to work at orlando health for a year after they give you the money. they do not fully cover the cost, they give you up to 3500 a year depending on your status as full time, full time variable, or part time. if you didn't have to sign a contract and agree to work here i would consider it but i'm not sure i want to stay in orlando and seeing as the program is really intense i'm not sure i could handle working and school at the same time!

yikes, that doesn't look like such a good deal anymore; although it's not as bad as the government (hrsa) offering!!

i found littmann scopes (classic ii se) for $63.99 with free engraving and lots of colors to choose from but the shipping makes them almost as expensive as ordering with the pack. there are others which are the classic lightweight that are $44.00. does anyone know which scope it is we need?

here is a little something interesting. i called the pack supplier and she would not tell me what we are getting in the pack!! but she did tell me that the stethoscope they are offering is the classic ii.

I contacted the company that provides the nursepacks for UCF. Interestingly enough, they won't provide a list of the items in the kit unless UCF releases the information. It seems that their rationale is that they don't want everyone to get the list of items and then go out and purchase them separately. I tried to explain that it was less about being able to go out and purchase the items separately and more about wanting to be informed about what our $185 was going to pay for. She did clarify by saying that the kit does include our BP cuff, but beyond that, not a lot of information. I'll try to contact the college and see if they can at least provide us with an overview of the kit contents, but I'm not sure that we're going to make a lot of progress with that. :)

Anyway...if anyone happens to get more information, please share with the group.

Yeah, I got a complete blank too; except they told me it was because the school wanted everyone to have identical trays, gloves, etc. so we "all have the same clinical experience". I don't know about the rest of you, but I won't be devastated if someone has better latex gloves than me!

Not a fan of being told to hand over hard earned money without being informed as to what I bought.

Just got the word from Connie that if we get the scope that comes with the pack we have no choice of color (it's whatever they bring to the school). You can order one and have it engraved with your name, which is highly recommended, from medisave.net. The price including shipping is $81.60. That is the cheapest I've found so far with engraving. If anyone has something better let us all know.....please :)

I plan on ordering mine separately as well so I can pick a fun color, any bit of individuality I can get I will take! haha. But allnurses recently asked us not to use the names of anybody that works at UCF, it is against their terms of service. I love this site and it has been so helpful so we want to keep them happy :-)

Yeah, sorry about that. I read it too late. I'm going with individuality too.

Has anyone started looking at the prices of books...seems if you order them online from other sources other than the bookstore you can save a lot of $$$. I added up the total of all the books I found online and it came out to be a little over $700. Compared with what the suggested price is of $1000 - $1500.

Can you post your source on the facebook page? I found most of them but it still added up to more than $800.
