@Skadooshbubbz0825 Congratulations that’s an amazing accomplishment! If you don't mind me asking what work experience and clinical externship did you have? Also have you already taken your NCLEX?

Congrats!! That is so awesome!! I stalked you a bit and wanted to ask some questions, if you don't mind. I saw that you had an offer from UCSD earlier in the year. Did you end up taking that offer or did you go with another hospital? Have you been working this whole time?

I am still sitting as "Referred to Hiring Manager" for IMU / PCU and no word at all on ED & Burn ICU.... But Monday is also my panel interview for the Johns Hopkins Adult ED / Nurse Residency Program in Baltimore. Really hoping for good news there ?
And I'm rooting for all of you who are still in the running at UCSD! If you've made it this far, you're doing something right and you've got great things going for you. Whether or not you get a job offer!
Boo! I am sorry, Drew. I hope something happens for you soon!
I never heard from UCSD at all. I hope that I was screened out automatically since I haven't graduated yet. It seems that they only took people who have already passed NCLEX. Hopefully, I will do better in the fall. Good luck to everyone still in the running. ?
Congrats to everyone getting interviews and offers!
I submitted a total of 12 applications. 3 are “Others More Competitive” and the remaining 9 are still Application Received.
Do you think this may have to do with the fact that I have not taken the NCLEX yet and the start date of the program is June and July? This is very discouraging and makes me think what it is that makes me not competitive as I begin to apply to different programs in the coming weeks.

I think it has a lot to do with prior experience I.e. working in a hospital now, externship, internship, etc. etc. Other than that I have no clue! I have not taken NCLEX but interviewed for BMT. Others applications were App received status as well. I do not have hospital experience.

I don’t understand because I have over 2 years of current inpatient experience, did my preceptorship in an ICU, graduated top of the class, many leadership positions. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.

@StudentNurse1221 I totally feel your frustrations, and many of us are also highly qualified and diverse candidates with a lot of personal and professional experiences. It's always an extremely tough market for new grads, especially in CA, and especially at any of the University of California campuses, as we are the highest paying state for new grads in the United States (if not the entire in the world) and the location is very desirable. This is why on average, California new grads have to wait 6-12 months after graduation to successfully accept a job offer and start working.
And that's under normal circumstances. We are currently in back-flow from all the new grads who couldn't get employment in 2020 because many new grad programs shut down all together, and hospital funding was redirected to the frontlines. Because during the pandemic, everyone seemed to want experienced RN's while we were more or less on the sidelines... but even then, unemployment for RN's actually increased overall (surprisingly) . So now that things are back on track, you're not just competing with new graduates from your cohort's graduation period. You're also in competition with recent new grads who are sill unemployed from my graduation period (December 2020) and from the period before me (May 2020).
All this to say, don't take this as too much of a loss if you don't get your first job that you applied to. Because it is 100% not a reflection of you, your capabilities, experiences, or your ability to be an incredible nurse someday!! You're going to get there (we all are). And who knows! You might just get the call soon that you've been waiting for from UCSD. We just have to be patient, stay positive, and learn from each experience applying as we go. I mean that's really all we can do, right? ?
Hang in there
