UC Davis RN Residency February 2014

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello! I just wanted to start a thread regarding the residency starting in February 2014 at UCDMC. Applications opened at midnight this morning. I wish everyone the best of luck!

did anyone get a skills survey for PICU?

@smuffins I interviewed yesterday. Good luck!!!

@polkadotrn I had an interview with the PICU, then Mario (the nurse recruiter) called me the next day saying I'm a top candidate and sent me the link to complete the skills survey. I've completed it, and he said that those who got the job would find out in 2 weeks, which would be Thursday (2/6).

Hey, all! I'm currently waiting for 3 references to complete their surveys. I know I don't have the guarantee that I'll be hired, but since I'll be moving from Los Angeles if I do get an offer, I'm trying to plan now. Is anyone else currently doing the reference check not from NorCal? Does anyone have any recommendation on where I should look for an apt or house to rent? My only criteria are (relatively) safe neighborhood, $600-$1100 rent, and within a 30-minute commute of UC Davis (hopefully not unrealistic! LOL). Does anyone know how much the new grad pays? Thank y'all in advance and good luck to everyone!

Oh my gosh thank you so much, @shellyciaglo!! Very helpful. I might send you a PM with follow up questions, if you don't mind! :)

Hi, would anyone know who to contact if I had questions about qualifications for the program? I graduate from my MSN program in May and was hoping to continue to gain more experience as an RN in an inpatient setting. Unfortunatley, I have worked under my current Connecticut RN license in a private practice - does this disqualify me from the program? I have never worked in a hospital-setting or acute-care setting.

Unfortunately, your experience might disqualify you. A friend of mine was a school nurse for a few months & that disqualifies her. The best person to reach is the program nurse recruiter. His name & email is located at the bottom of the New Grad Residency Program page.

I wouldn't live on manlove or fulton. Some of those places aren't too bad. But you can definitely find a safe apartment in a good area. If you want to work at Davis and are single/young, Id recommend trying to live right in midtown/east sac. Although it costs more. BUT if you have student loans, find the cheapest safest apartment you can find and just try to knock them out.

Good luck to you.

Do you guys think all candidates have been contacted for interviews? I'm still holding onto hope that nurse managers from other departments are procrastinating. What do you think?

They might be done already, @Bos12. I spoke with HR & he said he's been calling people with offers for the past 3 days. Sorry...:(

@bos12 I just received a phone call for an interview next week. There's still hope ;)
