Hello everyone!
I did not see a thread for UC Davis MEPN 2020 start so I thought I would start this since applications open up next week ? has anyone written a personal statement? I can't find any specific guidelines for what to include
Hi everybody,
I was wait listed back in 2016 for the inaugural cohort, but didn't get in. I'm wondering if enrollment numbers have changed. Does anybody know if they're receiving more applications/enrolling more students for these newer cohorts? I submitted my application for the 2021 cohort, but now I'm thinking I should have taken a little more time to write my statement of purpose. Also, what "written work" are they referring to? Is there a section for that?
Thank you.
@So_pina Ya it’s ridiculous it’s like we were the backups and initially got in the first round then they are now saying it’s not good enough? I will not be reapplying to this program in the future. It takes so long to get an answer back compared to other programs.
@juan234 from my understanding, they haven’t increased the number of applicants they’re accepting for any of the cohorts. I would email them to double check. I’m not sure what “written work” they’re referring to besides the personal statement. I hope you get in next year!
I got the same reason for written work. I didn’t get in anywhere this round so hopefully next year works out. They have been the only program so far to at least offer some insight on what to improve on. Better that it’s written work than grades/experience, those are much harder to improve upon in a year (especially with COVID limiting experiences)
Hey best of luck to those who didn't got in, and CONGRATS to those who got accepted into the program. Those in the program and starting just few tips guys, it's such a breath taking course and starts it with all go have got, and guys since you're all in the same cohort work as a team, Graduate school do not really cares much for GPA, you guys should support each and be there for each other. I am currently in my Second Semester at USF. I applied to both programs last year and through God's grace I was accepted to both programs but choose USF for family reasons as I was not looking to moving out to Sac. But nursing school is a collective efforts as we are each smart in various ways so support each, it should be about the whole cohort not just individual interests please guys. Those replaying look at other schools with same programs to widen you chances, look into schools like UCSF, USF, SMU in addition to UC Davis just in case. Best of luck to everyone with nursing school and replaying.
@Anthony EnsahThank you for this reply! I wanted to send you a private message here but it didn't let me somehow. And CONGRATS in getting to those schools! Unfortunately, I have applied to those schools you mentioned and didn't get in. I was really hoping for Davis especially after passing the first round. Ughh I wish I knew what to do to improve my chances. Guess I gotta work a little harder on my purpose statement now!
@dharrigan13 I understand your choice! It's true I just realized we waited almost a year between submitting our application and finding out we got rejected. I feel the same way for USF, I won't be reapplying to that school since I got waitlisted then rejected three times already despite improving my personal statement every time.
Hi everybody. I'm currently applying to the 2021 cohort and am a bit confused about the timing of these classes. There are people in this thread replying that they just received a rejection letter over the last few days. I was under the impression that classes started early June. Wouldn't the 2020 cohort already be one month in?
hi @livewellmm and @Charlotteee
Are you guys currently enrolled in this program? I was wondering if I could talk to you guys to get more insights and see how you like the program. I'm asking because it seems like UCD is fairly new but the price tag for tuition is comparable to private schools. I have friends that were in SMU, USF and UCSF's program but I don't know anyone who has finished UCD's.

Everyone's experience is different. Our cohort experience is different because COVID hit and our classes got moved online. I personally like the program but definitely feel that covid took away a lot of opportunities. However, the staff has been great and doing their best to accommodate. I say if you can wait it out till in person classes resume then that would be great. However, zoom school is not too bad either, but the price tag remains the same. Hope this helped.

Also got the denial letter for the same reason.
"Not competitive with other applicants because: Statement of Purpose/Written work"
I don't understand, we were selected the first round based on that and now they are saying that our written work wasn't competitive?
At least we were given a reason so hopefully we can all write a better one and get in next year! ?
