Hello everyone!

I did not see a thread for UC Davis MEPN 2020 start so I thought I would start this since applications open up next week ? has anyone written a personal statement? I can't find any specific guidelines for what to include

Do you think you will have your transcripts for this course before the application deadline on 8/1?

I believe so. I expressed this concern over e-mail to a couple of instructors, and they told me it'd be more than enough time. Definitely cutting it close but it's the best I can do.

@Raverlane I am in the same boat with one of my pre-requisite. Hoping it's doable.

Can I ask where you're taking your course? The one I'm trying to complete is the group communications requirement too. ?

@Raverlane I am going to be doing the General Chem pre-requisite at Laney College. Last day of classes is 7/26. Lol.

Hello everybody!

I will also be applying to Davis this year! Just curious, does anybody know about the statistics of how many applicants and how many seats in the MEPN cohort?

I wish the best luck to everybody!

I am curious to know if anyone has gotten in with the science pre-req GPA not being the highest but was offset by a high undergrad GPA along with experience.

Just curious, did anyone use one communication course to satisfy both verbal and group communication?

For instance, I plan to use Public Speaking to satisfy the verbal and group communication requirement and some other writing course to satisfy the written communication requirement.

My communication courses were slightly different so I had a similar question. I sent an email to the email posted on their webpage near pre-requisites and I got answers fairly quickly! Try that.

Hi Haron, I was recommended to take another communication class. However, they said that I may select Public Speaking to satisfy both verbal and group communication. It is not necessary to complete another communications class, as I have satisfied the communications requirement.

Nonetheless, by taking another communication class, they believe that this will better prepare me for their graduate degree program. So I am bit uncertain what to do at this point. I am wondering how much this recommendation would way on my chances of getting in.

Hi Asiyak44, I am actually in a similar position as you. I managed to find a short-term group communications class I decided to enroll in that ends 7/6. It worked with my schedule, and I figured if I can fit it in, then I should so that I can give myself some peace of mind.

I don't know your exact situation, but I think if you can fit in another communications class, I'd consider it. If you can't, I wouldn't worry. I've been in close contact with admissions for a while about classes, and they've always emphasized how they assess each application holistically. I'm sure if other areas of your application are strong, there shouldn't be any need to worry. Best of luck!
