Hello :)
Anyone else applying for UBC's September 2014 intake? If so, let's get through this process by communicating with each other!
Once you get to the interview, your GPA and supplemental don't matter. Interviewers are often not from Nursing school, so overall impression is important. Dress for success but not too official (think how RN would dress going to the hiring interview). It's not easy to prepare for the interview unless you have access to past scenarios. Remember that UBC is a liberal establishment, so apart from nursing terms (empathy/compassion/humility/confidentiality/dignity/teaching etc) know how to manipulate such terms as equity/access to health care/diversity/inclusiveness/human rights and so on. Be yourself, have fun with it. Don't ever mention that Nursing was not your only option. Be confident: eye contact, posture, etc. Sleep well the night before, don't drink too much coffee in the morning and treat yourself to a good lunch after your interview because your deserve it! GOOD LUCK.
Does anyone think we will be hearing back earlier than the projected end of the first week of May?
I looked back at old forums and it appears that their interviews were later and heard by the end of April!
I agree with A_Axelrod! The interviews were a really fun process and the other interviewees were so awesome! Everyone seems so capable and competent it's hard to imagine UBC having to pick and choose!
Good luck to everyone!
From what I remember at the interview, the woman who did our orientation mentioned they would start sending them out in about three weeks, although now that I think about it I'm not sure if she meant three weeks from that date (April 10th) or three weeks from the last interview. Either way would be great to find out sooner! The waiting game is the hardest part. But fingers crossed, good luck guys :)
So now the wait begins.... I keep ruminating over one of my answers in the MMI and wish I had answered it differently. Is anybody else feeling the same? I hope they lets us know sooner than later so we can plan for next year. I looked over last years thread and it looks like people started finding out either way about 10 days after the interview. It may be longer for us because we have the Easter long weekend in there. Good luck to everyone!
@STAR LITE I feel the exact same way. Immediately after the interview I was feeling like I did OK, most likely from the rush of adrenaline, but as more time passes I am really doubting many of my answers. The first question I answered I was so nervous! Also, there are just so many amazing applicants!
I definitely feel the same way! There is one question that I'm just so upset about! :\ but like they told us we shouldn't dwell on our answers! we did the best we could :)
I was noticing that last year the last day of interviews was the 19th and they started hearing back the 25th! I really hope we hear back soon!!
Congrats on completing the interview! I'm sure you all did great. Everyone I met there seemed super nice, smart, and really top-notch. Everyone seemed really perfect, but in a cool way, if you know what I mean.
Luckily for me I barely remember my answers or even the questions, which means I'm really not worrying about it.
There is nothing we can do now but wait. I know the numbers say that some of us will get rejected, but making it this far is pretty impressive. They had 500+ applicants, quite a bit more than last year, so the competition was very high. I can't help but think these things are a matter of luck & circumstance.
Good luck to everyone!

UBC had a very high number of applicants this year - over 500! How you wrote your application is just as important as what you wrote. I graded supplementary applications for another discipline at UBC a couple of years ago and quality makes a huge difference. The interview process is MMI. This document briefly explains it http://www.nursing.ubc.ca/PDFs/Using_multiple_mini-interviews.pdf
It's pretty hard to prepare for the interview. I'd recommend looking over the CRNBC ethics document but otherwise get a good sleep and try not to stress as each station has a time limit. Good luck! It's a fun process :)
