UBC September 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello :)

Anyone else applying for UBC's September 2014 intake? If so, let's get through this process by communicating with each other! :nailbiting:

I am starting to believe that they actually sent all ~200 invitations by March 26 (Since Thursday morning, no one post that he/she got interview offer).

Also, not like 2012 or 2013, interview is starting in 2 weeks. Therefore, admission sent out ~200 invitations super fast not like past years.

They will probably send out few more invitations after March 31 based on number of decline invitations.

I am trying to stay in positive but this is a mentally exhausting experience ever :scrying:

Ugh that would really stink :yuck:... Makes it extra hard when you see others with similar GPA and supplementals getting interviews. I guess the wait will be over soon enough though at least!

I feel ya! This whole process is painful :)

Is this for sure that no more invitations are going out? :/

anyone else hear anything from today?

haven't heard anything. been checking my email account every 5min as well as the student services centre 'application status' on ubc website.

trying really hard to stay positive...

Sending positive energy to everyone (like me) still waiting to find out if we got an interview or not!

I haven't posted in this thread but I've been lurking for a while, so I thought I'd pop in to say I got an interview invitation this afternoon. My GPA is 3.8 (out of 4.0) and I've been doing sex education and sexual health outreach with a couple of organizations for about two years, as well as doing leadership (including management) at summer camps and various other youth work type things for 5+ years. There's still hope!

Just got my rejection email :( Honestly, though, after reading all of your bios I am not surprised! I just don't have the life experience yet to compete! I was mainly hoping my GPA and writing skills would carry me to at least an interview! Oh well, my other option is still alive. Good luck everyone!

I got my rejection notice too. Despite the fact that I worked on hospital wards as a phlebotomist for 3 years, and worked in a group home setting for disabled adults for 7 years - I just ranked a 3 on the supplemental. I don't know what they're looking for, but I was pretty sure I had enough experience in health care to know that being a nurse is what I wanted. Ah well.. Guess it's not for me after all.

Also received my rejection, so you're not alone Swaybe. I don't have a ton of volunteer experience working with others in the way lots of you successful applicants have. Most of my experience is with my undergrad Geology club/ Alumni Geology club organizing conferences and networking events. My working experience has been at a big oil company for the last 3 years. Not very "caring" related at all.

However one thing I am really confused and hoping someone could clear this up... my gpa in my last 30 credits is 3.82, and in the email they sent it said that my gpa translates to an 80.3%? Does this seem right? I thought it would be more like an 85%.

I received an interview invitation this afternoon also, so there is still hope! On a side note, I live in Vancouver and was wondering if anyone in the area would be interested in practicing for the MMI together? I believe that throwing questions back-and-forth will be extremely beneficial!

Congrats to anyone who got an interview!!

I got my rejection letter today... and I can't help but laugh a little. My grades were not the greatest, 77%, although I thought I had more around 80%, so I am not sure how they converted my letter grades from another university..anyways. But I thought my supp application would help me. WRONG!haha I was in the lower 25%. I have been working in a clinical setting (clinical research) for the last 7 years, have been devoting a lot of time to mountain biking (riding, being part of the race team in 2012, and volunteering about 10 hrs per month half of the year for my mtn biking club) plus taking one average one course every semester year-round on top of working full time... I am wondering if they were expecting me to volunteer on top of my 40 something hours of work, practicing sport and taking courses...

I am disappointed, but I feel like my personal statement, etc reflected who I really am, and if I am not what they are looking for, well, there is not much I can do. I am not going to change who I am to please a university. I am more sad about the application fees which turned out to be a big waste of my precious money... :p
