UBC September 2014 Applicants

Published

Hello :)

Anyone else applying for UBC's September 2014 intake? If so, let's get through this process by communicating with each other! :nailbiting:

If anyone has questions about the program/application process feel free to ask! (though I think the 2013 UBC thread covers it pretty well). I started the program in September.

I am going to be applying for Sept. 2014 too! I have signed up to go to the information session on the 28th so I'm hoping that will help out with information about the application!

Congrats :)

Do you mind sharing what you applied with? GPA, Degree, Volunteer Experiences, etc.

Did you apply more than once?

@lauray are you done all your prereqs?

Hi Everyone!

I am 90% sure I am going to apply for UBC Sept 2014. I have been a geologist for 3 years but I won't go into the details of why I want to take nursing. Anyway, I live in Calgary and own a home here so it makes more sense for me to go to U of C but I really really want to live in Vancouver! I just need to take Athabasca's Biol 235 course and that will cover my pre-reqs. I am signing up for it ASAP. I don't know if I will have good enough supplementals, but I am going to try anyway. I have quite a bit of volunteering, especially during University but none of it is nursing related in the slightest. My GPa is about 3.8, so I hope that will cover the grades end. I am also applying at U of C, but that doesn't open until July 2014 so by then I will know if I get into UBC or not.

Hi, I will be applying for Sept 2014 as well. I applied a few years ago and got an interview however declined because I decided to do my MSc at the time. I wanted to go through with academics but have realized it is not for me so back to square one for me! I had a 78% average in my BSc (Hons) in biochemistry. I volunteered for some groups on campus, vice president of the yoga club on campus and some hospital volunteering. I think as long as your supplemental application is strong you can get an interview so put lots of time and effort in that!

I have a question for current students: I heard there is a study break in August during the program. When exactly was that break for the 2013 class?

Good luck everyone!

I'm applying for Sept 2014 intake too! I am doing the challenge exam for BIOL 235 from Athabasca... I've graduated 2 years ago from McGill from the Dietetics program. I'm not sure what to write for the last essay question..

Is it really useful to attend the information session? can someone share the info on this board as I will be working :(

thanks, best of luck everyone!

Hi amychow0,

I attended a previous info session and I didn't find it that much useful than what was provided online on the slides. You can check out what they basically cover in the session by looking at the overview on the UBC School of Nursing website front page :)

I mean, if you have any burning questions that are not covered in the slides, you can always just email them!

Hi amychow0,

I am currently a fourth year nutrition student pondering between dietetics and nursing. What made you choose to apply for nursing rather than going through with dietetics?

Hi jpcl28,

I worked 2 years as a Dietitian already and love my job. However, I would like to be able to see the whole picture instead of focusing on one aspect, I find that the potential and opportunities for dieticians are quite limited... continue education is also hard to find, it's a lot of self learning and it is challenging to give expert advice on something so common (food and diet) when everyone has their own views and opinions about it.

Hope that helps!

Amy

Hello all,

I'm applying to the 2014 UBC intake as well, and it's great to be in your company. I'm in my thirties, so this will be a second career for me (if I get into a school, that is). Anyway, I've been reading the forum and have been inspired by so many of your stories. I'm not too sure how good my chances are, but I'm hoping for the best.

Looking forward to sharing this journey with you!
