UBC 2020 Nursing

Published

Hey!

Just wanted to start this for anyone looking to apply to the 2020 cycle for UBC accelerated nursing. Let's share what we'll be applying with and any other info :).

Specializes in PACU.

Good luck everyone on your admissions!!

To be honest COVID has put a dampener on our studies right now. In-person clinicals and labs were cancelled until further notice since Monday this week, which makes our workload heavier than usual -- more tasks are due online. We're basically facing a lot of uncertainty during this stressful time, but we have each other to pull through. Be safe!!

WOW!! That must be hard. Do you know if that will push graduation to a later date? Good luck!

How is everyone holding up? Hope everyone's safe! 3 more weeks till we find out hopefully.

@bbbeee So far, Nursing isn't anticipating delayed grad (hopefully not) - Term 3 is supposed to start on April 27th. UBC moved to online courses, so theory will most likely be online in the Summer with labs and clinicals in-person, although again the situation might change.

Hang in there!! We got our offers on May 5 last year so you should start getting them by then, if not before! Good luck!

How is everyone holding up? I feel like being home from work & school has me max stressed and constantly checking ssc even though I KNOW the results won't come out for 3-4 more weeks. I was just rejected from the Master's program I applied to at UBC as a backup and now everything is on the nursing program (which I want way more anyway). Feeling like I probably should have applied to more than one school right now though ?

What are you guys doing to ease the anxiety while we wait?

Hi! Has anyone here taken Biol 1593 & Biol 1693 at TRU to fulfill the anatony & physiology prerequisite? I'm thinking of taking them but the prof has really bad reviews

Hi there! I hope you and your family are staying safe these days! I totally feel you, and I kept checking the website every two days. I found keeping your mind off this whole admission thing helped for me, since I am still finishing up my fourth year at uni, and I still have couple take home exams to finish. I only applied to three school, and I am currently on the waitlist for one and still waiting to hear back from the other two. Hopefully we will end up in the nursing program somewhere! Keep hanging there, and everything good worth the wait!

Hi everyone. I am currently a community health worker with fraser health and vancouver coastal health as a casual, and it is crazy with the pandemic happening right now. I also have work experience as a medical lab assistant (yeah phlebotomy skills!) and medical office assistant too in the past as well. I also have a canadian bachelor of science degree, with my most recent 30 credits equaling to 3.1 GPA (what is that in percentage according to UBC-V?). I just wanted to ask if there are other health care workers/current applicants who plan to or have applied to UBC nursing? Do I have a chance of being admitted? Though my GPA is not as competitive what do you guys think of my chances?

You seem to have a solid application and have great work experience. If you think you did well on CASPER, I'm sure you'll be a competitive candidate. It's not the end of the world if you don't get accepted but did you apply to other schools such as Langara or Kwantlen?

If you don't get accepted, I'd recommend you apply to Langara since you have a degree and the chances are greater of getting an offer and they have two intakes a year (Sept, and Jan). I've got my acceptance letter from Langara Sept 2020 but waiting to hear back from UBC and then I'll decide which school is best because there are pros and cons to both institutions, but I'm leaning on Langara potentially even admitted to UBC because there is more clinical

Hi everyone!

I decided to stop creeping from the sidelines and actually contribute. Similar to @nini.mango I work in healthcare. For the past 9 years I've worked at Sunnybrook Hospital in the critical care unit as a patient administrative associate and have a ~75% from university I attended from 2007-2011. More recently I finished a two-year college program with a 92% average so I wonder if they'll take a holistic view of my past education- I hope so! Anyway, I hope everyone is keeping safe and have their spirits high despite these trying times.

Only a few more weeks until we hear back! Goodluck to everyone :)

Hey thanks, I hope you’re staying safe and doing well at home too! I’m finishing up my A&P II right now too with an online final coming up, so thankfully that’s helping a little bit right now! The last couple weeks of April are going to be rough I think ?good luck, I hope we do too!!

A friend who works at UBC somewhat suggested to me in March that we could see earlier acceptance letters going out from all the nursing schools this Spring. From that comment I was hoping to have heard something by now from the schools I applied to. This wait is a drag. Has anyone had any news from any of the schools?

I only applied to UBC and at this point I am fed up. From the previous conversation in this group, offer letter will start rolling out from late April to early May. The wait is just too long and I am looking into University of calgary after degree nursing program incase I don’t get in.
