  1. Hi everyone. I am currently a community health worker with fraser health and vancouver coastal health as a casual, and it is crazy with the pandemic happening right now. I also have work experience as a medical lab assistant (yeah phlebotomy skills!) and medical office assistant too in the past as well. I also have a canadian bachelor of science degree, with my most recent 30 credits equaling to 3.1 GPA (what is that in percentage according to UBC-V?). I just wanted to ask if there are other health care workers/current applicants who plan to or have applied to UBC nursing? Do I have a chance of being admitted? Though my GPA is not as competitive what do you guys think of my chances?
  2. Hey guys I really feel those who have 60 + credits score high in education. I have a degree already and honestly most applicants have them since this program is considered an accelerated program (after degree). I worked as a phlebotomist for 2.5 years, worked as a summer fit tester for the hospital and 300+ hours as a medical first responder with St.John Ambulance. My grades are 3.5 GPA collective of the pre reqs, but my cumulative GPA is 2.6 from my degree. TBH the questionaire was literally the same the first time I applied so hopefully you copied and pasted the questions so you can prep your potential answers next time. DO NOT GO OVER THE WORD COUNT. Hope that helps
  3. Hey guys! I got accepted too!!!!! Let's get in contact!! Facebook group????
  4. There's still hope right later in the summer? Other applicants may have applied to other schools/program (eg. Medicine) right? Those schools might give them acceptances and more spots may open later right? I can't believe that every applicants now being offered a spot all have 3.7 GPAs and have master/ 2 degrees already right? There are other considerations beside GPA, otherwise what's the point of the supplemental application?
  5. Hello everyone. I have been following these forums for a long time now. I read other's stats and experiences, but this goes out to others who follow these forums as well and possibly have experience in similar circumstances as me. I have only applied to Uoft. I am am graduating from university this June as well, but my final year GPA is only 3.1. When I read other posts I feel hopeless about my chances. Even though ugh I have a lower GPA I hope my experiences as a Medical Lab Assistant with Dynalife for 2 years. Dealing with patients needs by understanding and ordering the right tests on their requisition, possessing string venipuncture skills, performing electrocardiograms on many patients, preparing patient specimens for transport, and performing first aid if necessary. I also volunteer as a medical first responder with st.john ambulance for 5 years and have led as team lead in big community events and festivals. I have handled many scenarios from minor cuts to severe cardiac arrest and spinal incidents. I also have volunteered with the newcomer centre for new immigrants and tutored their children as well. I also have volunteered with university choir for 2 years and have volunteered and practiced with my kendo club for 5 years. Despite my low GPA do you think I still have a shot for Do any current students know of any students present in the current program with similar circumstances? What at do you guys think?
  6. Yeah I applied too, because I feel there are a lot of applicants with high GPAs applying to Edmonton, and honestly those with the higher GPAs are using nursing as their back up if they don't get into medicine. Camrose has a lower GPA acceptance around 3.1 from what I've been told so stay positive!
  7. Hey tparno, where did you get the stats about 3.3 gpa? Is it guaranteed admission if an applicant has all the pre-reqs but has a gpa of 3.0-3.3?
  8. Hey Meganv, I've read your posts and honestly we have the same if not identical ec's and hopefully similar gpa by the end of this term, and I would like to talk about the toronto program and application anxiety you felt last year? Please PM (I can't yet because I'm so new) I would really like to contact you because I have so many questions.
  9. Does anyone have previous experience applying to UofA, generally what is the cutoff for lowest GPA and does the application committee favor people who have completed the prereqs already, over those who haven't and are still working on it? All the posts I've seen are people with GPA's that could have gotten them into medicine, quite frankly its intimidating.
  10. Hey CSSI, I was just wondering what kind of research experience you participated in? If you have any other supplementary related experiences please let me know. I'm also in my fourth year of my degree, but I do not have any research experience yet I have clinical lab experience and have health-care related work experience as a lab assistant at an outpatient lab. I am very anxious about my chances. Your acceptance gives me hope!
