Hey!

Just wanted to start this for anyone looking to apply to the 2020 cycle for UBC accelerated nursing. Let's share what we'll be applying with and any other info :).

Hey guys! Just wondering if the SSC has updated for people who received an acceptance (CONGRATS btw!) I got waitlisted and am curious to know if mine will update to say I’m waitlisted or if it will just stay the same. I’m so anxious to know if I’ll get in or not and I hope we don’t have to wait too long to hear!

Yes! Mine was updated and I was able to pay the deposit ? hopefully you hear something soon!!

Hi guys, I'm a current student in the UBC BSN program. Congratulations to everyone who was admitted! And best of luck to everyone who didn't make it this time; you will find your path, I'm sure!

I thought I would write, while I'm thinking of it, to just post a little confidence booster for the fall term for everyone starting the program. At some point during the first month or during the first term, you will likely feel really overwhelmed. I absolutely did, and felt like I was not managing at all, I felt unprepared and super nervous about clinicals, I didn't feel like I was absorbing half of what we were learning, and I thought I was the only one who felt like that. (so here comes the confidence part :) ) - it turns out that pretty much everyone I spoke to felt like that (so talk to each other about how you're feeling!), I wasn't unprepared at all for clinicals (they ease you into it really gently and you learn at a fast but manageable pace), and the learning builds on itself - so what I couldn't really absorb in the first months is being repeated and built on so that now in my 3rd semester everything is finally coming together and making sense (it happens before that too, but this is just to say you can't possibly absorb everything all at once). So I guess this is all to say, it feels impossible sometimes in that first semester, but its not, it will all come together, just have patience and give yourselves a break!

And just as a small background, my previous degree was literature (so no science at all, I had to learn everything from scratch) and two kids at home - if I can learn this I know you can too!

I probably won't be on here again soon due to a pretty intense study period at the mo (just in case anyone asks anything and I don't respond!) but just wanted to take a little break from the books to send some encouragement. Enjoy your Summer!

Just wondering, if anyone knows if the online labs and clinicals have been extremely detrimental to people's learning this term and what this means for the incoming students.

Hi IV13, I can't speak to what the plans will be for the upcoming students, but for the current cohort, our labs and clinicals are not online. They did cut our clinicals and labs a bit short last semester at the beginning of the pandemic as they were working everything out, but for the Summer term, while the format of the term has been restructured and labs will look a bit different, we are still doing them onsite. Labs for this semester have been condensed into full day and less frequent, rather than every week. Clinicals have been moved to the second half of the semester.

For those of you who applied to both BCIT and UBC, why did you ultimately end up choosing UBC? and for those who have experienced the program already, do you have any regrets about your choice?

Did anyone get accepted from the waitlist yet and if so, what position number were you?? I'm on the waitlist so I want to know where I stand currently on it!

Hey! I’m number 1 on the waitlist and I haven’t heard anything yet. From looking at last years message board it seems like they don’t send out waitlist acceptances until closer to the respond date for accepted people which I believe is June 22 this year?

Thank you for your helpful answer! One of my friends that got accepted said that the final day to accept is July 15, unless it's a different day for each person depending on their last name or something?

My bad, I think that's just the deadline to hand in the official transcript!

Does anyone know how many people UBC accepts from the waitlist?

It depends on how many people decline their offer which changes yearly! On last year's thread, I think somebody with a waitlist number of ~30 said they got in!

Any other waitlisters going crazy waiting to hear an update?? LOL...I checked last year's forum and notifications regarding waitlist rank went out June 10. Hopefully we hear something by then!
