Hey!
Just wanted to start this for anyone looking to apply to the 2020 cycle for UBC accelerated nursing. Let's share what we'll be applying with and any other info :).

Based on what I saw in last year's thread, I had an impression that they weighed Casper the most, followed by an equal grading of supplemental and grades. But that was my impression when I filled out my application. I think an important piece of information is that because it is only the most recent 30 credits, so you can have the opportunity to 'reset' your score and bring up your grades - although this can be risky, too, because grades aren't guaranteed. I managed to make my average go from 72 to 88 for this application!

Yes that totally makes sense. I did try to aim for the highest grades in my last 30 credits, but I defs should've done better.. I wish I knew about this website before all this.. I would've done so many things differently ?. I would've actually prepared for my CASPER, studied harder(I already did, but obviously room for improvement), etc.. so damn depressing, I was so close but sooo far..
I just graduated from UBC, so I can't really improve my grades. Unless I go back for more classes, but very unlikely..
My dumbass couldn't access the BCIT's quiz for shortlisted people, so I missed my BCIT intake as well.
Maybe it's not my time yet.. Hopefully I'll improve next time. ?

I have really found it helpful to read through all of your comments. I am looking to apply for the 2021 year. I was wondering if when you get in, you wouldn't mind updating the thread / and or me with how much volunteer experience and such you had on your supplemental application!
I have solid grades but am stressed about this part. Thanks so much and fingers crossed for you all ?
I think a good thing about this supplemental application is that even though there are boxes for what you would normally put on your resume, there are also boxes for you to fill out information about yourself - such as your personal statement, and also opportunities to describe other things beyond just a resume, you know, getting to know you as a person. I tried to highlight my story since high school and what I value, rather than focusing on what I have done/did which is what many applications today do - where you list out everything to get a sense of your character; I don't have opportunity to fill every single second of my spare time doing something to put on my resume. For example, I need to have time to speak to people, my family, and go on Youtube. Therefore getting a chance to explaining who you are rather than having someone infer for you/put words in your mouth, is also important, I find.

I graduated from UBC 2 years ago, and I did an unclassified year.5 almost 2 years! (I took a semester off as I got some nasty virus for the entire month of September) just to improve my grades for this intake. My grades used were January 2019 to December 2019 for 30 credits... I spent the Summer at BCIT for anatomy, which was actually enjoyable (even more relaxed than a typical UBC course), I would have been bitter if it wasn't because my anatomy was eventually not used for UBC. So this past semester with the coronavirus was up in the air (not used, so I just continued my volunteering on campus), but it past by so quickly come to think of it now, we're in June. 2 years ago I didn't have much hope to getting into this program, given the grade circumstances I were in at the time. But focusing on the reality, in which they take the last 30 credits, made me focus again to try to improve, as my past grades could be wiped away if I did better in the present. Although grades will not be counted past December, so if you decide to take courses it is important to finish by December. I don't strongly recommend this, because there was quite a lot of uncertainty that I faced, but, I do think it's worth considering if you are waiting for other schools also. ? In my perspective, taking a year in which I could take courses that were interest of me, lessened some of the burnout I had while doing degree-required courses that I did not enjoy, but also were 400-level and quite heavy.
In terms of BCIT, I'm sorry to hear - I actually had some confusion with some of their application aspects, almost 2 years ago they introduced the Casper but then didn't count it.. but my application is still open with them at the moment, for intake in 2021

I believe you would have a personalized deadline? I'm not exactly sure, but possibly gather all the immunization history you can possibly get through paper, and if you are able to arrive before classes start you could book with UBC Student Health Service for the 2 immunization sessions. For me since I am here, I have booked with Student Health next month
Hi, I am currently applying to my second year science specialization at UBC but my end goal is to go into nursing and I plan to apply this Dec. I was wondering if there are any recommendations as to what common science majors are for pre-nursing students. Thanks ahead ?
Also I was wondering how the CASPer portion of the application goes, do you take the test after the application in December?

I personally decided on Biology because I found the material straight forward and the animal physiology portion of BIOL 260 is pretty useful (and the profs are amazing)! I know a few others who got in by specializing in Microbiology/Immunology. Pick a major that you know you'll succeed in and find interesting.
As for CASPer, you can take it either before or after you submit your application-there should be a couple of dates you can pick from. I took my CASPer mid-January which was the second to last opportunity to take it. If I recall, the last CASPer date was mid-February?

Thanks! I was number 1! I think what they’ve done is maybe sent out acceptances to the first 10 on the waitlist? I’m not sure but it seems like it.
