UBC 2020 Nursing

Published

Hey!

Just wanted to start this for anyone looking to apply to the 2020 cycle for UBC accelerated nursing. Let's share what we'll be applying with and any other info :).

Hello everyone,

I'm sure probably everyone has heard that UBC plans to transition to online learning in September for large classes. I am wondering how this will apply to the nursing program in particular and if all our didactic courses be online??

The Offer of Admission letter also indicated that clinical experience starts towards the end of September. However, now I am curious if we still be able to participate in clinical placements?

I've emailed the UBC Faculty of Nursing asking these questions, and asked if they will be issuing any further information/ details to incoming students about what to expect with the new changes in September, but I haven't heard back yet. I haven't confirmed my acceptance at UBC yet - I'm not sure exactly what to expect in the fall.

Has anyone heard any further information about what to expect in September? Have most people accepted their offer or is anyone else waiting to hear more information??

From what I have heard, the current class has online classes over the Summer but will be able to do clinical in person in the hospital. I would imagine it would be similar for you all in the fall. ?

All their classes are online? I was really looking forward to being on campus and meeting everyone ? It's going to be such a different experience moving to fully online learning. Does the current class have any hospital placements right now? Or have they been put on hold?

I believe all their classes are online, yeah, buy they seem to have a pretty thriving community through facebook groups and such! And yes, they are starting their Summer placements in person for clinical in a couple weeks I believe. ? Definitely a different experience, but I would imagine that by January at the latest, you'll be able to be on campus at least part of the time. ?

UBC’s statement says the Fall will have a blend of online and in person learning depending on the class size so I think smaller classes and labs would still be in person? I hope!

This is the announcement if you haven’t seen! https://broadcastemail.ubc.ca/2020/05/11/covid-19-ubcs-approach-for-the-fall-term/

Yeah I would expect that they will do some in person labs, and labs are usually 4-8 students at a time anyway. ?. Labs are great.

On the same boat as you, I haven’t accepted yet either, still waiting to see how things play out. Is anyone worried about being able to find a roommate with everything that’s going on or do you think that will still be normal as people need others to live with ?? Crazy how uncertain everything is!

What is the deadline to accept?

Hey does anyone have any insight if the scope of practice of an RN is different between Ontario and British Columbia? And is it harder to go to school out of province to return to a job in Ontario, Job wise ??

I personally don't know, but I do have friends who are nurses. Some moved cities (inside the province) to more easily get work, but the ones who stayed felt like they had a bit of a leg up in knowing what the health authority was looking for in applications or from connections through placements in their programs. Hope you can get more feedback on this! Tough decision.

I've seen people post on the BSN facebook group page and find housing together.

The NUS has opened up a Google doc for you all to ask your questions on the facebook group for the upper cohort to answer. So drop any questions you have on the doc.

Hey guys! Just wondering if the SSC has updated for people who received an acceptance (CONGRATS btw!) I got waitlisted and am curious to know if mine will update to say I’m waitlisted or if it will just stay the same. I’m so anxious to know if I’ll get in or not and I hope we don’t have to wait too long to hear!
