Published

Hey!

Just wanted to start this for anyone looking to apply to the 2020 cycle for UBC accelerated nursing. Let's share what we'll be applying with and any other info :).

I saw some BeMo videos and took some notes on that. I also played typing speed games for about a month when I had some free time (maybe 3-5 minutes a day?). I think the thing that helped me the most was the practice test and answering practice MMI questions timed. Since most practice MMI questions don't have follow-up questions like the CASPer, I usually gave myself 2 minutes to answer them. I practiced this for maybe 2 sessions of 10 minutes a few days before my CASPer test. Most importantly, I did my routine (everyone's is probably different) on staying calm before test-taking (yoga, meditating, a nice cup of tea to drink, etc).

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out ?

Thank you! I have always crushed a bit under timing pressures, it was hard for me to write thoughtful, coherent thoughts in such a short time frame. I think practice questions would help. And for me, a quieter space next time ? I think I would fare better in an interview! Haha

thanks again.

Hey there! Honestly, don't count yourself.out yet. This is just the first wave. You may still get in! My year there were people who had originally not gotten accepted who got accepted as late as mid-August. And they went beyond the waiting list to others that weren't on it at all. And there's always next year! Loads of people get in on their second try. Rooting for you!

Hi sheilachristine,

How amazing would that be! Gives me a tinge of hope ? thanks for your response. I’m not getting any younger but will keep trying.

cheers ?

Hey guys. My SSC is updated today and I received another email. It states

“Please note a maximum of 50% of your new degree program can be fulfilled using credit from your previous UBC program and/or prior post-secondary studies. Contact your faculty advising office to determine how your previous studies can be used to fulfill your new degree”

I’m not sure what this means. Is it because we are entering into “third year” of the nursing program? Did anyone else get this email??

No, what it means is that if there are courses that you've taken before that are required for the program you were admitted to then you could apply those credits instead of re-taking those courses. But you need to contact UBC Nursing Advising about that because I don't think BScN qualifies.

That blurb is the same generic blurb they give to everyone who "transfer" and yes it's because we're going into Year 3 and the system just gives us that info. But I don't think we qualify...but doesn't hurt to ask UBC Nursing about it!

Hi Everyone,

I have been following this board for quite some time now and thought it was finally time to pop in and say hello! Major congratulations to everyone that got in! ? I accepted my offer earlier today and I am so excited for what's next. So sorry to those of you that didn't make it this time around; keep your spirits high!

Looking forward to meeting some of you this fall!

anyone know if we have to submit our final transcript if all our courses were taken at UBC? or is this for people that went to different school?

Hey, no we don't. It'll get submitted electronically to UBC Nursing.

If you took any other courses outside of UBC like me and haven't finished them, then submit!

Hi Meowmeow, thanks so much for your advice. I really appreciate it and it gives me hope. I feel like I’m in a very similar boat.

Mind me asking what some good GPA boosters are? I’m located in Vancouver. My anatomy and physiology courses are expiring soon so I’m in the midst of applying for VCC courses, but I think obviously a higher GPA would be a good thing. I work full-time at the children’s hospital though so it’s always hard to find courses that are given outside 8-4 ?

I agree with your rant. Telling my family members that I was rejected has them saying “but I thought everywhere was crying out for nurses!” I wish more seats would open up. That being said I’m sure teaching resources are scarce.

Thanks again!

Do you mean some GPA boosters at UBC? At UBC, many people have mentioned ATSC 113, CONS 101/127, EOSC (in class) as GPA boosters! I didn't find them too interesting though, in particular, so make sure when you register for classes make sure you are comfortable with the grade formats as studying for these classes can be tough. If you mean outside of UBC, I don't know GPA boosters outside of UBC, sorry ? Also consider if you can do online courses - I found that in general, online courses are harder to do well in, especially since I have to finish my psychology course online outside of UBC before I'm all done... And yeah, I think healthcare in general is just a limited resource that I think needs some more advocacy work from the public, which I think might have awoken governments across the country with the Covid crisis...... hopefully this time...

Hello! Just wondering if there was any updates from those who are on waitlist?

CONGRATS to everyone who has gotten in!

Haven’t heard anything...my SSC isn’t even updated yet. Is yours?

Have you spoken to UBC nursing? I'm not sure how many people are on the waitlist, but I think people have to decline first, and so far it is until June 22 ?Particularly with COVID, people might hold onto their offers longer? Not sure - but I recognize the anxiety of wanting to hear back asap. ?

Hey!! Anyone have any insight on why UBC nursing is a better option compared to other schools?? any specifics would be great!! Trying to make my decision but it’s a bit tougher than I thought!! Also anyone worried about finding roommates??
